FEATURED ATTRACTION:

GET CHRISTIE LOVE draws its roots from the “made for TV” movie, and extremely shot-lived (22 episodes in just one season) series by the same name. It was originally released during the 1970’s blaxploitation film period, when you had films like other heroines like Tamara Dobson's Cleopatra Jones (1973), and Pam Grier's Coffy (1973) and Foxy Brown (1974).

So now BILL COUGAN is attempting to remake Teresa Graves’ Get Christie Love (1974). So, most obviously, the first question I have to ask is… WHY?

Okay, all kidding aside, let’s actually look into this remake shall we?

Halle Berry has a “sketchy” track record when it comes to being the star attraction in a film. She has probably doomed as many films as she has had successes with. ANTONIO FUQUA and BILL COUGAN are banking a lot on her potential “star power”, and I think that it just falls a little short of the target.

The film however is entertaining, and has a sort of nostalgic feeling, looking towards the story (as well as the main characters) as it draws its overall feel from the blaxploitation genre… but there are a few, minor problems with the script. First, and foremost of the outstanding problems…

Lt. Reardon (Christie’s uptight boss, played by Samuel L. Jackson) and Detective Christie Love become romantically involved. If this were to happen in real life, Detective Love would probably be transferred to another division, and Lt. Reardon would face disciplinary action, at the very least. But, this is the movies… and not real life.

Except for a few other minor issues… I think you’ll enjoy this film. It’s not going to preach some false sense of morality in the end; it’s just going to be a piece of entertaining cinema.

So, how do I rate GET CHRISTIE LOVE?

It’s not a bad film, all in all.

NOW AVAILABLE FROM CRAZY MOON PICTURES ON DVD, HD-DVD AND BLU-RAY DISC:

As I had said when I initially previewed this film, I really though it was a fantastic piece of entertainment… and many others moviegoers apparently thought the same thing. But alas, the interest at the box office waned slightly… and the film fell short of the projected box office gross.

So, although this film may have been considered reasonably successful in the eyes of Harry Stark, and the powers that be at Crazy Moon Picture; I have it on good authority that there may not be a sequel made to NATHAN ZACHARY AND DRAKE’S GOLD, even there are plans initially projected by the studio in the press.

Apparently, JACK HAMMER is very disappointed with the box office draw… and the CRIMSON SKIES film series may “crash and burn” even before it gets a chance to spread it’s wings and takes to flight.

Sad too, because I loved this high adventure film, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel.

My recommendation for the DVD release of NATHAN ZACHARY AND DRAKE’S GOLD…

BUY IT!!!

It’s a high-octane race to the finish!!!

ALSO AVAILABLE ON DVD…

Apparently quite a few people saw something more in this picture than I did.

Yes, it did have its humorous points, but I find it truly amazing that this film grossed 132 million, and out performed the high-flying action/adventure film NATHAN ZACHARY AND DRAKE’S GOLD by almost double the box office draw. This is what I feel is giving JACK HAMMER second thoughts about continuing another possible franchise.

Honestly though, it’s like trying to compare apples and oranges.

LIEUTENANT USA AND HIS WARM STEEL GANG is silly, and appeals to the silly side we all have, and yet some seem to try to stifle… and keep silent.

My recommendation for LIEUTENANT USA AND HIS WARM STEEL GANG…

RENT IT!!!

Comedies, especially lampoons/spoofs have a tendency to have low replay value, but it’s worth a rental.

EXCLUSIVELY ON MIDNIGHT MOVIES DIRECT TO DVD…

CROC ATTACK is like the film THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, except instead of searching for the legend of “the witch”; these documentary filmmakers are attempting to search out rumors of giant crocodiles.

This low budget attempt at B-movie “monster films” from Producer/Director KEVIN HOOKS and Screenwriter MATT KUBRICK is pretty much a bore.

We’ve seen this type of film before, and there not really any surprises to be seen here with CROC ATTACK.

The sad thing is, this is just the sort of “guilty pleasure” film that gets people to continue to watch them, and it’s sort of like the films of Ed Wood, Jr.… once you start watching them, you can’t seem to help yourself, and you keep watching, even though there is no reasonable explanation why you watch.

You just can’t help yourself… and you keep going back for more.

So, my recommendation for the “straight to DVD” release of CROC ATTACK…

BUY IT!!!

Like I said… you just can’t help but watch it over and over again.

ALSO COMING TO A THEATER NEAR YOU…

WILD CARDS: ACE IN THE HOLE is the second sequel to the MATT KUBRICK’S WILD CARDS, and a complete and total overhaul of the movie franchise. The introduction of a new group of characters, and total divergence from the established storyline may confuse fans of this film series… but the storyline will be enough to capture a new audience in the process.

Personally, I think it’s a WIN-WIN proposition for this movie franchise… and may just surprise the existing fans of the WILD CARDS films.

The storyline is somewhat erratic at time, but keeps you interested all the same. John Travolta as Puppetman, now there is a villain with insane ambition…. and he carries off the role convincingly. You are never really sure as to the fine line between genius and insanity with this character, until the very end.

Now, the heroes are sort of “freaks”, like those depicted in one of my favorite and slightly bizarre films… MYSTERY MEN [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0132347/]. Stange, quirky and “down on their luck” characters that really don’t seem to have any place in this crazy, mixed-up world… but somehow make a difference, and make it a better place because of who they are deep down inside.

So, how do I rate WILD CARDS: ACE IN THE HOLE?

I think MATT KUBRICK may have sparked new life into this franchise.
