FROM THE “I NEVER SAW THAT ONE COMING” DEPARTMENT…

With the announcement of the retirement of JOHN DAWS, I can’t help but wonder…

Why would anyone, especially someone that shows such a great deal of fortitude for the rigors of filmmaking… just walk away from it all?

Personally, I’m not buying into the whole “he wants to concentrate on other activities” routine. That’s usually a smokescreen, and there is always more to it than that, especially when you dig down below the surface! “He/She wants to work on other things”, usually means one of a few things… especially when that news comes from the studio house, and not from the actual person themselves. Usually, it spells a conflict of interest… i.e. the goals of the studio are different from those of the individual. In this case though, I have a feeling it may be an entirely different problem… the personal burnout of JOHN DAWS.

Did the all difficulties and problems with HE-MAN finally add up to “the final straw that broke the camel’s back”? Well, until we hear it from JOHN DAWS himself, I guess we’ll never get the final answer to that question.

I’m not surprised with MATT KUBRICK expressing an interest in the problem-plagued film either. With the financial success of MARCUS TRAX’S DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, as well as the fact that MATT KUBRICK was literally one day late of having his own DUNGEONS & DRAGONS project approved… HE-MAN could just be the vehicle that takes him to the top… provided that he’s able to get the green light for the project from HARRY STARK.

I think that with all things considered, even though HE-MAN has been problem-plagued from the beginning… it’s a film that is almost begging to be made. Will HARRY STARK shelf the project? Will he give MATT KUBRICK, or perhaps MARCUS TRAX the green light? Or perhaps… the project may go to a newcomer?

Until HARRY STARK gives the final word on the status of the film HE-MAN, we’ll just have to wait and see.

FEATURED ATTRACTION:

PLANETSIDE

Starring: Liam Neeson, Sean Connery, Rachel Weisz, Ewan McGregor, Kiefer Sutherland, Ron Pearlman, Anne Hathaway, Gillian Anderson, Eric Bana, Jennifer Garner
Producer: James Cameron
Director: James Cameron
Screenwriter: Marcus Trax My Feelings: PLANETSIDE starts out with a major catastrophe, and what is probably the worst thing that could happen to any expedition… to arrive at the final destination, only to have almost everything destroyed just before you can “set up shop”.

It’s that initial event that lays the foundation for the whole storyline of this film. Now, the few settlers and crew that remain from the sleeper ship Sunrider now have to do one thing… survive on the new world of Apollo.

This film is filled with conflict, as the stresses that surmount grow. Lack of food and needed supplies cause fights amongst the survivors, which end up in a violent struggle of “survival of the fittest”… and tests the very limits of “man’s inhumanity to man”.

This film has big budget special effects, and all-star cast… and is an incredibly ambitious project for JAMES CAMERON and MARCUS TRAX, and it lives up to the big budget. Moviegoers will be dazzled with the ground breaking CGI animation, as well as a riveting storyline.

I think MARCUS TRAX has written a spectacular screenplay, and I feel I can confidently encourage moviegoers to see PLANETSIDE. Although we have seen the “space disaster film” before, this story is fresh, lively… and downright gritty.

NOW AVAILABLE FROM CRAZY MOON PICTURES ON DVD, HD-DVD AND BLU-RAY DISC…

LEGEND OF THE LAST LAWMAN

With what would appear to be the end of this saga, it is a fitting tribute that this LEGEND OF THE LAST LAWMAN had the biggest financial success of the three films written by JACK HAMMER. These are films that have grown increasingly in popularity, and have begun to develop quite the fan base.

It just goes to prove that sometimes “word of mouth” is the best advertising after all.

So, will the stories of Jim Brannock continue, or… will he ride off into the sunset like so many “larger than life” legends before him? Only time will tell, but until then… my recommendation for the DVD release of LEGEND OF THE LAST LAWMAN:

BUY IT!!!

Also, you can do yourself a favor, and check out THE LAST LAWMAN and RETURN OF THE LAST LAWMAN on DVD as well.

ALSO AVAILABLE ON CRAZY MOON DVD…

THE STORY OF ME

This film is a distinctly Robin Williams film vehicle. What’s more… is that it pretty much suits him to a tee.

After all… it’s not really all that far of a stretch, and the role seems almost “custom fit” to his background, and his life story. This is not to say that the film is not worth seeing. I think that it’s a solid film, and deserves at least on viewing.

This film shows the decadence of American stand-up comedy of the 1980s. How “stand-up comedy” had become on par with the attendance numbers of rock concerts… filling stadiums and amphitheaters alike. And also, it shows the decline, as what happened to so many of those performers as well, many who asked themselves the same question over and over…

What happened?

This is worth the viewing, and for DVD release of THE STORY OF ME, I recommend that you…

RENT IT!!! -or- BUY IT!!!

Comedies are strange, and usually don’t have a lot of “replay value”, but there is just enough drama mixed in, that it’s a toss-up.

AND… COMING TO A THEATER NEAR YOU:

ACE BANNER: RETURN TO FURY

Starring: Jason Statham, Christopher Walken, Kurt Russell, Teri HatcherProducer: Matt Kubrick
Director: Quentin TarantinoScreenwriter: Matt KubrickMy Feelings: ACE BANNER is back again… and I for one wish he wasn’t, or at least not at the hands of QUENTIN TARANTINO. After the release 22:01, I have a feeling that ACE BANNER: RETURN TO FURY may be the final “death blow” that is dealt to this sinking franchise. I think if any other director had gotten hold of this film, they could have possibly breathed new life into the film franchise. Personally, I feel it’s probably a film that MATT KUBRICK should probably have directed. He would more than likely had done a far better film.

There is a few shining moments in this film though, and most of them, yet again are possessed by the villain (portrayed by Christopher Walken) in this film.

This film was a risky venture for CRAZY MOON PICTURES, and I feel that sadly… it was a risk that should not have been taken.

So, how do I rate ACE BANNER: RETURN TO FURY?

In answer to the question that MB and Harry have raised regarding a fourth Lawman movie...

No, there isn't going to be one. The Last Lawman was always intended to be a trilogy and that's the way I'm leaving it.

On a more positive note although I was disappointed with the box office for Nathan Zachary and Drake's Gold I've decided to continue with the series in the hopes that, like the Lawman, it will gain legs as we go along. So keep watching for the next chapter of Crimson Skies: Nathan Zachary and the Pilfered Prototype.
