FOUL KARMA
Horror / Thriller
The Cast: Matt Damon, Samuel L. Jackson
The Director: Matt Kubrick
The Producer: Midnight Movies
The Screenwriters: Josh Collins & Matt Kubrick
The Plot: Terrance (M.Damon), a cat burglar, just picked the wrong home to break into. In the middle of the night, he breaks into a stranger's home, but his plan backfires when he's caught red handed by Silas (S.L.Jackson), the psychotic vigilante anti-hero of the story who holds Terrance hostage in his own home. Terrance tries to weasel his way out of Silas' grasp "You kill me and you'll pay. Just let me leave and I swear that will be the end of it." to which Silas says, "So you can do it again to someone else? The big question is, am I more afraid of what's going to happen after I kill you, or are you more afraid of dying."
Silas and Terrance get into a little scuffle but little does the burglar know, Silas is a black belt in karate, so Terrance loses out on that fight quickly and while he's battered and bloody, Silas ties up Terrance's feet and hands with rope and chains. He tries to scream for help, but Terrance grabs his gun, smacks Terrance with the butt of it, knocking out some of his teeth. "You're just getting yourself into deeper shit, you fuck!"
Silas sits and speaks with Terrance in a more calmer tone, asking him questions about why he does what he does, but Terrance really just wants to get out of this house. Silas just enjoys treating it like a little game. Silas unties Terrance's hands and forces him to pull down his pants and underwear(penis not shown, just implied), just to fully embarrass him. After slight protest, Terrance does so(Silas is the guy with the gun) "Play with yourself" Silas demands, and after brief disagreement, Terrance does so. Silas actually gets up and cuts Terrance's "manhood" half off with a nearby knife, causing Terrance to scream in agony and fall over.
Silas shows he has some human in him when he helps control the bleeding to avoid the bleeding to death. He pulls Terrance's pants up, then Silas straddles his chest to pin down his arms and holds a small bottle of pepper spray right in front of Terrance's face. "Now you're going to talk to me and answer my questions." "Where the hell are you getting these things from your Batman utility belt?" Terrance asks. Silas sprays the pepper in his face, "I ask the fucking questions around here!"
Silas tries to ask why Terrance is doing what he is doing. He could have been home by now, laying in a nice cozy bed with a full dick to play with. Other means of torture Terrance endures throughout the film is getting an ear cut off, beaten to bloody pulp, a few finger and toe nails pulled off, pouring salt and scraping lemons on deep cut wounds. Silas is so confident that he has Terrance where he wants him, he actually leaves the house to get something from the 24 hour store. While Silas is gone, Terrance slowly worms himself to the phone in the kitchen. He tries to pull the receiver down by yanking it hard with his mouth, it causes the cord to fall out.
Silas returns with cigarettes and beer. Just another thing to torment Terrance with by burning Terrance's throat with a lit cigarette. And just for the heck of it, he shatters a beer bottle on Terrance's head. He asks "Why are you doing this" and Silas comes clean, saying his wife and child were in the wrong place wrong time during a convenience store robbery. The burglar killed his family, this is his way of getting his retribution. Instead of showing sympathy, Terrance decides to use this to get under Silas' head, poking fun of the tragedy while Silas tries to shut him up. Silas gives him a swift kick in the face.
Silas brings in a gasoline can and pours it all over Terrance. "You're just gonna end up burning your house down. You're really not as smart as you think you are." Silas says "You got me all wrong. See, I don't care what happens to me. What happens to my possessions. I've got nothing in this world because it was stolen from me by your kind. I can burn this house down with you and me in it and I couldn't care any less. I've been living in hell for a long time and even if the fires of hell are thousands of degrees, it's still not as hot as the hell I endure living on this planet without my wife and child."
After Silas' brief speech, he doesn't light Terrance on fire. He unties him, but he is still very weak from the assault. Silas picks up his knife and stab himself in the neck to kill himself, leaving Terrance a little confused. He stumbles to the phone to call the cops, turning himself in and saying he got loose and killed the homeowner but he's willing to give himself up to them when they come.
End of film.
Stark’s Comment: An acting duel between Damon and Jackson in this terrifying story. Midnight Movies looks for a more quality movie than usual with this first working reunion of Collins and Kubrick. It looks very appealing to me and it may work decently in box office.CHECK, PLEASE
Romantic Comedy
The Cast: Paul Rudd, Drew Barrymore, Ice Cube, Anna Faris, Kirsten Bell, DJ Qualls, Maggie Smith, Jason Lee, Joan Cusack, Jeremy Piven
The Director: Jay Roach
The Screenwriter: Josh Collins
The Plot: Check Please features a series of bad blind dates gone horribly wrong for a young man (Paul Rudd) and woman (Drew Barrymore). They have no names in the play or film so they are dubbed Guy and Girl. The film is shot in nine different ten minute segments all taking place in one restaurant.
Guy's dates include a woman with a multiple personality disorder (Anna Faris) who has constant arguments with her family and friends about the guy, a single mother (Joan Cusack) with five children (all of them brought on the date with her and she spends her ten minutes breast feeding the baby while the other children run wild), a nymphomaniac (Kristen Bell) who wants to be in Guys' pants more than wanting a real relationship, and a woman whose old enough to be his grandmother (Maggie Smith) who loves her little Yorkie Terrier dog a little too much letting it lick her mouth, even lets it control her dating life.
Girls' dates include a recently released felon (Ice Cube) spending the date wanting her to see his van, a 45 year old mama's boy (Jeremy Piven) who brings his mother with him on the date, a guy (Jason Lee) who thinks he's smarter than everyone and always has an opinion about something no matter how right or wrong he is and loves to hear the sound of his own voice and lastly a flamboyant theater actor (DJ Qualls) whose questionably gay and as it turns out, is.
The final segment features Guy and Girl finally hooking up when they bump into each other in the restaurant, figure out that they are right for each other and the last spoken lines of the film 'Check Please' are heard.
Stark’s Comment: A peculiar romantic comedy written by Collins and based on the stage play by Jonathan Rand. Jay Roach returns to CMP 9 Seasons later, after directing the very first CMP’s release, ‘Entertaining Mrs. Sullivan’. The movie has a great premise and I hope it will be a funny and refreshing release.SHOTGUN JOE
Action / Exploitation
The Cast: Kurt Russell, Eva Mendes, Josh Brolin, Rosie Perez, Brian Dennehy
The Director: Rob Zombie
The Producer: Midnight Movies
The Screenwriter: Matt Kubrick
The Plot: In a small southern town a homeless man named Joe (K.Russell) will be the only man standing between a fierce street gang and the residents.
For the past few years Joe has been a man most people walked past and didn't care to help. He's pretty much stayed to himself in the shadows trying his best to stay out of people's way while scavenging for food. One night he witnesses a rape and murder of a young woman. The inept cops are powerless to protect the people that depend on them the most.
One day Joe watches a convience store robbery go down. Before the masked man can shoot the young woman with his shotgun, Joe manages to wrestle the man to the ground and during the struggle the robber has his head blown off. Later the sheriff Lucas Buck (B.Dennehy) declares the man a hero and did no wrong and he is free to go. It is at this point that Joe decides he can't watch the violence happen any longer and he wages a one man war on the gang led by a man that calls himself Jet (J.Brolin) and his girlfriend Fox (R.Perez).
A female cop by the name of Gloria (E.Mendes) secretly pairs up with Joe when she figures out that the shotgun that has been used in the gang battles now belongs to Joe. Gloria soon ends up being executed by Jet and Fox when they discover that she has been helping Joe and soon Joe takes the battle to a worn out ware house where they hold secret meetings.
Joe is badly wounded during the battle from multiple gunshots and the sounds of sirens fill the air. When they burst into the warehouse they find the aftermath of the battle and Joe who is clinging to life. He survives his gunshots and after recovering at the hospital he is awarded as being a hero, he is given a place to live with Gloria's family and the town is able to return to normal.
Stark’s Comment: Second release from Midnight Movies this week. A story about revenge full of violence. Rob Zombie returns after ‘Damnation Road’, a movie which prestige has grown with time. I don’t expect it to be a major blockbuster but at least it may found its audience.
CROSSOVERS: This comedy about love and infidelity written and directed by
James Bradley will have a long cast of young stars. The Spanish actress Paz Vega makes her debut in CMP playing the starring couple together with Ryan Reynolds, recently seen in ‘Deep Silence 2’. And we will see around them talents like Kate Bosworth, seen this Season in ‘The Legend Of Zelda II’; Ellen Page, also seen this Season in ‘Woodland Creatures’; Dane Cook, debutante in CMP; and Steve Martin, returning to CMP after his cameo in the Studio’s remake of ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’.MORE TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED: Problems with this production. As usual, the perfectionist Ben Tyler has decided to introduce some last minute changes in the screenplay. But it even might include a change of the stories to be told. So the cast is still to be confirmed by the Studio. That has caused a delay in the release date planned for the movie. It is expected that the three directors already involved in the project – David Fincher, Gus Van Sant and Matt Kubrick – remain.
DEADLY FORCE: Another problematic production. See below at The Inner Circle the difficulties
created by the bad relationship between writer and director Jack Hammer and lead star and producer Brad Pitt. At least, a replacement has been found to play the villain after Sean Penn refused the offer. Emilio Estevez takes his place in his first work for CMP.CRIME STOPPERS: David Zucker (‘Lieutenant USA and His Warm Steel Gang’, ‘Q*Bert’) has convinced some of the stars he worked with in ‘Lieutenant USA’ to get together again in this comedy about a group of decadent movie stars from the 80s trying to make a sequel of the saga that took them to stardom. Chad Taylor is the author of the screenplay. And the stars meeting again are Steve CarrelL, Owen Wilson and Zach Braff. More comedians are expected to join the cast.
TRACKS OF BLOOD: The cast of friends of producer Tarantino, director Rodriguez and writer
Kubrick keeps growing with Jessica Biel (she worked with Kubrick in ‘Ace Banner’), Jason Statham (he worked for Kubrick and Tarantino in ‘Ace Banner: Return To Fury’), Christopher Walken (who has worked in three previous Kubrick’s stories: ‘Ace Banner: Return To Fury’, ‘Atlantis’ and ‘Night Cab’) and Antonio Banderas, who has worked for Robert Rodriguez in several movies like ‘Desperado’ or ‘Spy Kids’.THE DARK TOWER: WASTE LANDS: Green light at last for the awaited third episode of the Stephen King’s Dart Tower saga written by Matt Kubrick. The previous episode became the most profitable release ever for CMP. As usual, this third one will be directed and produced by Sam Raimi and starred by Russell Crowe.

SILVER SABLE AND THE WILD PACK: Another return from the first movie: AnnaSophia Robb, after her personal success with ‘Paternal Nightmare’, returns as Sable / Heigl’s cousin. And a replacement: Bo Hoskins will play this time Sable’s uncle. Anthony Hopkins, who played that same character in the first movie, has decided not returning to the saga.
SILENT HILL: Green light for the first screenplay from a new screenwriter, Max Arilius. Despite the title, this is not a remake of any previous existing movie but a brand new horror story. David Fincher was the first director who was offered this project but he has refused to directed and the replacement is not known yet. Rupert Everett takes a rest from the Flashman’s saga to star this dark production.
BULLET WITCH 0: GMA Winner Ben Kingsley returns to CMP in this action production. He
replaces Christopher Walken, who preferred to get involved in ‘Tracks of Blood’. Also in the movie will be seen Brad Dourif, recently seen in ‘Preacher: All American Family’, and Ice Cube, who is making his debut in CMP this week with ‘Check, Please’. It seems that, after so many changes, the cast of the movie has been definitely set.KINGDOM: Naomi Watts (the ‘Corsairs’ movies, ‘Dr. Jones and the Cursed Treasure’ and voice of ‘He-Man and Masters Of The Universe’) completes the starring trio of this epic production together with Megan Fox and Chris Evans. Jeremy Irons returns after working this Season in ‘Wild Cards: Battle Of The Rox’ and ‘The Gunpowder Plot’. Susan Sarandon, last time seen in ‘Dare To Be Perfect’ also works in the movie.

MATT KUBRICK – ‘FOUL KARMA’ & ‘SHOTGUN JOE’
Kubrick and his independent production company, Midnight Movies, release two productions with the most classic Kubrick’s trademark: violence and a certain B-series spirit. ‘Foul Karma’ means his return behind the cameras after ‘Reform School Girls’ and his first collaboration with Josh Collins. ‘Shotgun Joe’ reunites him again with Kurt Russell, one of his fetish stars, and with director Rob Zombie.
1.'Foul Karma' is your first collaboration with Josh Collins after the cancelation of 'What Goes Around'. How was it working together and what can you tell us about the creative process between you two?
It was great working with Josh Collins I don't want to take credit for the story of foul Karma because
he pitched the idea to me to direct it and when I read it, I just loved it. It was intense to read and I knew that I had to direct it. I've always wanted to direct more stuff that wasn't my own but nothing ever came up. The two of us, we usually write very different material but the thing that we have in common is our stuff is usually dark and our ideas really played off each other well and Josh was always there on set.2.Were Matt Damon and Samuel L. Jackson your first choices for the characters?
They were our only choices! they are both great actors and can play any role that you give them!
3.Watching most of the movies you make, it seems like you don't care much about awards or reviews? I have the feeling you have a great time making movies you enjoy and not worrying about prestige or money, which I think is great.
Thanks for the kind words! I just love making movies, I pick the things that I would enjoy seeing in the theater I'm a big fan of exploitation and low budget 70s type films, but I also love a good super hero show or somtimes a big budget thrill ride. I try to mix them up a bit. Whether I'm behind the camera or writing the movie I just want to put on a show that audiences will love.
4.'Shotgun Joe' reunites you again with Rob Zombie after 'Damnation Road' and also with Kurt Russell. You have also worked a few times with people like Tarantino or Alexander Aja. Do you feel comfortable working with people you know?
I like working with people that will understand what I would like to see in the movie the people that see what I see when I read something. Rob Zombie is an awesome director it's going to be hard to top the movie The Devils Rejects which even Roger Ebert gave a good review to. Kurt Russell was in some of the coolest movies ever and can play such a badass. Me, Rob Zombie and Kurt Russell all working together how can that not be the greatest movie ever? ok enough patting my own back I'll just make myself look like an ass. I'm still trying to come up with a good story that Quentin Tarantino can direct for me. He is doing something a bit different with inglorious basterds and I would like to try and do something that I haven't written before and I think I got it.5.Tell us something to introduce that new project from you, 'Kingdom'.
Action, high fantasy a pretty woman who is also tough with a sword, it's going to dark kinda gritty.

Past week, we took a look at Best Supporting Actress winners. So, obviously, this week it’s the turn for the boys.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR WINNERS
BEN KINGSLEY
What For? ‘The Crusades’, the epic adventure written by Joey Stark and directed by Paul Verhoeven that also won the Most Wanted Sequel award – although the sequel was never developed – and the first Best Picture award.
Against? Two tough contenders: Gene Hackman for ‘Deadly Sins’ and Jude Law for ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
And then? Kingsley reappears from time to time in CMP. Seen in ‘The Bridge’, ‘Visionaries’ and ‘One Man’s Hell’, he is returning in Season 11 with ‘Bullet Witch 0’.
JACK NICHOLSON

What For? Playing a nice drunk in the post-September 11th dramedy directed by Tom Hanks ‘September’s Gone’. It was the first award for Nicholson, awarded again later in the Best Starring Couple category together with Johnny Depp for ‘Cell Mates’.
Against? Steve Buscemi for ‘Checkmate’ and Paul Giamatti for ‘Fools Game’. They had no chance against Big Jack.
And then? Nicholson has kept playing peculiar supporting roles in movies like ‘Piece Of My Heart’ and the two installments of ‘Cell Mates’. His last work for CMP was in the Best Picture winner musical ‘Only In America’.
ROBERT DOWNEY JR.
What For? Before playing Ironman once and again, Downey used to do other things in CMP. He won the award for the war drama ‘Home’.
Against? Two heavy-weights working in the same movie: John Malkovich and Robert De Niro, both from ‘The Toymaker’.
And then? Ironman. Three Avengers’ movies and a cameo in ‘Silver Sable’. Exhausting.
JOHN GOODMAN
What For? The drama about war journalists ‘Warland’. Goodman played Mel Gibson’s best friend in the last movie directed by Sidney Pollack for CMP before he passed away.
Against? Don Cheadle for ‘South East’ and Eric Bana for ‘Paperback Story’.
And then? Sadly, Goodman does not work too often for CMP. After the award, he made a cameo in ‘Lieutenant USA and his warm steel gang’ and also worked in past Season’s megahit ‘The Land Of Nod’.

SHIA LEBOUF
What For? The ‘sleeper’ ‘A Horse With No Name’.
Against? A surprise: Sylvester Stallone for ‘An American Stroll’ and still a pre-Ironman Downey Jr. for ‘No Evil’.
And then? Nothing. Surprisingly, Shia has been away from CMP for 5 Seasons now.
KEVIN SPACEY
What For? His splendid work in the tough Collins’ drama ‘Blink’.
Against? Daniel Day Lewis for ‘Quadrophenia’ and Patrick Stewart for ‘Hitman: Pain Of Destiny’.
And then? Not much. Again, it seems like winning an award becomes a curse for a talent’s career. Only seen in ‘Monolith’ since then.
BILL MURRAY
What For? Bill Murray for the movie he also directed ‘Life and Facts Of A Dirty Mind’. He also won the Best Villain award for the same work and was nominated for Best Director. A unique achievement.
Against? Previous edition winner Kevin Spacey, for Monolith, and Woody Harrelson for ‘Lyra’.
And then? His voice has been heard this Season in ‘Borgel’. A small reward after his personal success with ‘Life and Facts…’

DANIEL CRAIG
What For? A leading role in ‘1066’. But voters decided it was a supporting role. It was the second GMA for him after winning Best Villain for 'Star Wars: New Order'
Against? Billy Bob Thornton for ‘Maleficarum’ and Keanu Reeves for ‘The Funeral Drum’.
And then? Craig stays as a regular in CMP. This Season he has starred the adventure movie ‘The Secret People’.
ROBIN WILLIAMS
What For? Being nice in ‘Ugly’. His second GMA after being the first star to win Best Actor with ‘Deadly Sins’.
Against? Dustin Hoffman for ‘Dare To Be Perfect’ and Tim Curry for ‘Tales Of The Unexpected’
And then? We all hope he gets well after his heart surgery and return soon to CMP.

Matt Damon and Samuel L. Jackson play the only two characters of the new Matt Kubrick’s movie ‘Foul Karma’. Here they are at the premiere of the movie in LA.

Deadly war at ‘Deadly Force’. It seems like writer and director Jack Hammer blames Brad Pitt for the painful flop of his western ‘Dakota North’. Let’s make some history: ‘Dakota North’, written by
Hammer and directed by Clint Eastwood, was starred by Angelina Jolie and his loving husband, Pitt, was the producer of the movie. The western turned into a box office disaster. Now, Pitt made the condition of not only starring but being also the producer of ‘Deadly Force’ and CMP accepted it. And rumors say that Hammer has strongly disagreed with that decision. The consequence is that the director (Hammer) of the movie and the producer (Pitt) of it just don’t talk to each other at the shootage of the film. The tension is so high that I’ve been told that any communication between them is made by their personal assistants. Harry Stark is having a bad time in the middle of that war. And I enjoy all that! Will Jack Hammer change his plans after this conflictive return to CMP? My deep throats at CMP are telling me that Jack Hammer was considering to keep on working for the Studio after ‘Deadly Force’. Let’s make some history here too: Hammer abandoned CMP after his strong disagreement with Harry Stark about the voting rules at the GMA. When presenting ‘Deadly Force’, Hammer made clear that he was only returning to the Studio for this specific project. But I’ve been told that he was considering lately to develop new installments of two of his old sagas: the acclaimed ‘The Great War Series’ and also a second adventure of Nathan Zachary. Will he go on with these plans after the complicated production process of ‘Deadly Force’?

The search for the right actress to play Wonder Woman goes on. Dawson Edwards and Harry Stark keep considering so many options. Both know that the success of this ambition production will mainly depend on making the right choice for the actress to play the character. Angelina Jolie, Colbie Smulders and Evangelina Lilly are the last names added to the list of candidates. The Studio has not decided yet neither who will be directing the movie.
The ‘Lieutenant USA’ movies created a kind of comedy gang in CMP. The group included comedians like Steve Carrel, Jack Black, Will Ferrel, Owen Wilson or Zach Braff. Some of them have worked together again in other CMP’s productions. And it is said that members of this gang will meet again in some upcoming releases in Season 11. It seems like the ego battles during the shooting of ‘Lieutenant USA 2’ are forgotten and forgiven between them.
I remember two things. First, Nicholas Cage demanding a writer to develop a ‘Justice League’
movie where he could play again Superman as he did in ‘Captain America vs Superman’. And rumors say that Chad Taylor has accepted the challenge. ‘Justice League’ may become soon the rival saga of ‘The Avengers’. Second, it is funny that looking back at this blog’s archives I’ve found a comment I made when presenting Chad Taylor. I wrote something like ‘how long will it take before he starts writing superhero movies as everybody else in CMP?’ Well, here is the answer. After only one movie developed, the acclaimed ‘Stanley & Livingstone’, Taylor has also been passed the superhero fever on.
Here are the 10th Golden Moon Awards! Harry Stark has already announced that the 10th GMA Ceremony will probably take place in August, 7th. The show stays at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. And voting for the nominees begin today.
