THE CRITICS CORNER

1-AN AMERICAN STROLL

“So nice, so beautiful. James Bradley has written some acid humour stories like ‘Fools Game’, peculiar situations in ‘Bill and the Rocket Man’ and epic adventures like ‘he Toymaker’. This time, he has just got tender with this story full of sweet characters you can avoid loving. Ang Lee directs it with elegance creating an appealing universe out from a small bar in the middle of the desert. Wonderful work.”
-Jack Carter

“My biggest surprise was discovering new aspects from some of the members of this peculiar cast. Yes, Stallone makes a moving and funny performance and take the best from his dumb rodeo rider character. Best work of his career. And the always excessive Chris Rock makes a content and intelligent acting work proving to have acting skills I never suspected he could have. Giamatti is again the perfect actor for a supporting role. And Winslet, Pfeiffer and Ryder take out the best of their characters to offer us their talent. An ‘actors-movie’ where everyone gives their best.”
-Jackie O. Callaghan

2-CELL MATES

“Mixed feelings about this one. Some times funny, some times irritating, some times brilliant, some times absurd. You just have to choose: have the Cohen Brothers made a cool modern comedy or have they just done the best they could with a screenplay with too many holes?”
-Lilly Stevens

“Jack Nicholson makes his own show. Johnny Depp makes his own show. And everything seems a bit out of control in this production. The Cohen Brothers take things from their own peculiar universe – remember ‘O Brother!’ or ‘The Big Lebowski’ – to set up the strangest comedy of the Season. Maybe it was just the side effects of marijuana…”
-Anne Roman

3-POWERHOUSE

“Gus Van Sant turns Ken Loach. A working class drama including social denounce and political rebellion. An elite production for restricted audiences. This is not a money-seeker movie but a little production with a conscience that cannot be appreciated by wide audiences”
-Bob Felton

“Correct but limited. Following the british style of ‘South East’, ‘Powerhouse’ cannot look for more than what it got. Theirs a certain lack of interest in the story and some talents are not the best choices in my opinion (Demi Moore?). Only the solid work from Daniel Craig, far away from his regular heroes or villains, saves the function a bit.”
-Alex Carrigan
