NEW WORLD. PART I – THE REBELLION

Action / Adventure / Sci-Fi

The Cast: Gerard Butler, Keira Knightley, Patrick Stewart, Josh Holloway, Ralph Fiennes, Dakota Fanning. Cameo by Gary Oldman, John Daws.

The Director: Ridley Scott
The Screenwriter: John Daws
The Producer: Tony Scott

The Plot:

A run down, broken city is seen and a growling sound heard to be getting louder. Suddenly a hoverbike speeds through dilapidated city, being chased by a hover car, signs of something moving in the dark on the way past a pile of rubble blown away from the speed of the chase can be seen. The hoverbike starts to climb a large path, over the top of which is a huge tower with several towers in the distance linked by long tunnels and paths, many hover vehicles flying around. The person on the hoverbike arrives at the tower, dumps the bike and runs onto a hover train, the doors close behind him. Startled onlookers stop to look at the figure, dressed completely in black with a helmet, before returning to their various activities including talking, listening to music and typing on imaginary keyboards. The rider removes his helmet to reveal Myers Landau (Gerard Butler) a government agent working for the New World Agency (NWA). He sits down and places a pair of glasses over his ears. From Myers perspective you see the glasses boot up and a virtual keyboard appear on his lap. The glasses are virtual computers and he quickly accesses a phone connection. The call is placed to NWA Security Division where Sylar Vislan (Patrick Stewart) answers. Myers explains that he has the evidence needed but needs to meet in a safe place; he explains that a hit squad chased him. Sylar asks for Myers current location and promptly responds that he is travelling from Sentenial Tower on route to Mandigolin Tower via hover train. They plan to meet in the Mandarin Bay bar in the Lower Sector of the tower.

Once the call ends he makes another call to Ahmenia (Keira Knightley). He explains there is not much time to talk but he is on to something very big and that she needs to go to go to Bestial Tower and find a man named Hindley who will tell her what to do. As conversation ends, Ahmenia stands from her desk and hurries out of a building which is NWA Security Division in Sentenial Tower. She takes a look throughout the tower with a look of worry; the tower is vast, thousands of floors high with hundreds of buildings and thousands of people. She leaves on a hoverbike to begin her travel to Bestial Tower.

As the train pulls into the tower station Myers shuts down his virtual computer which had a news article with the headline Manhunt for President Killer and a date of March 23 2342 PD. As he looks out of the window he notices a man waiting on the platform looking intently at the passengers on the train. Myers quickly gets up and walks through the train carriages until he reaches the last carriage. The doors open and Myers steps off trying to look as casual as he can. The man spots Myers amongst the crowd and starts walking towards him. Myers turns and starts to walk away from the man. He turns a corner and walks into a room. The room is large but is not being used due to construction. There is no exit other than the way he came in. Myers turns and the door starts to open. The man from the platform walks in with a laser pistol aimed in front of him. The man asks Myers where it is. Myers does not say anything. The man threatens to shoot him but Myers still does not respond. Then the door bursts open startling the man and his pistol falls to the floor. Myers bursts through the door. The two men begin to scuffle and a fight breaks out. They fight using all manner of methods available to them. Myers picks up a laser sword used as a tool for cutting through metal and takes off the man’s hand; he then falls to the floor. Myers put the sword to his throat and asks where the president is. The man has nothing to say and pushes his neck onto the sword, killing him instantly. Myers turns the sword off and pushes a button on a bracelet on his wrist. The other Myers that was just standing there disappears revealing it to be a hologram. Myers leaves the room and walks back towards the station platforms heading for the exit.

Meanwhile Ahmenia arrives at Bestial Tower a vast buzzing city much larger than the Sentenial Tower. She wonders how she will ever find one man in this vast metropolis. She decides to head to the local bar. When she arrives she asks the bartender (John Daws) about Hindley. He points into the far corner to find a man with his head on the table and a large bottle of Jantra, a very strong whisky. She sits down opposite him and introduces herself. The man stirs for a moment before raising his head. He looks and likes what he sees. He tries to compose himself and eventually slurs that his name is Hindley Marlan (Josh Holloway) ex government official and traitor to the NWA. Ahmenia is startled by his honest appraisal and wonders how this man is possibly going to help their cause. She explains that she was sent by Myers and it is in regards to the secrets of the NWA. Hindley almost immediately sobers up. He says that he has something very important to show her and that she must help him to his quarters in the Bestial Lower District. She promptly stands him up and they slowly progress to the lower district.

Myers arrives at the Mandarin Bay Bar and spots Sylar at the bar. The man towers above the crowd at 7 feet and can easily be spotted. As he approaches the bar he notices several people from either side of him stand and walk towards him. Sylar turns and gives a nod to each group who promptly return to their seats. Sylar explains that he is now followed by lots of guards since his recent promotion to NWA President. Myers orders a drink from the bartender. Sylar asks what Myers has found. Myers explains that the mystery of why the planet is in tatters lies in the form of a young girl. Sylar is confused but Myers continues.

He states that on his travels he met with a man named Hindley. He showed him the blueprints to a lab, secretly located in the Bestial Tower. The lab is used to experiment on Alien biochemistry given to the founders of the NWA. The girl is the last remaining member of an alien race that came to the planet over 200 years before. An agreement was reached that meant that they could keep the girl, who does not seem to age, for experimental purposes providing that they could take some of Earth’s population for their own experiments. The NWA, a science team back then, accepted this and the exchange made.

Sylar stops Myers and asks how he can trust this man, as this is a lot to take in. Myers explained that Hindley told him to travel into the wastelands to see the NWA failed experiments. Myers had travelled to the wastelands and found mass graveyards full of humans but with alterations. Sylar is skeptical and says this could be from the nuclear fallout. Myers gets annoyed at the continued doubting from Sylar. He says there was no nuclear fallout and the land was destroyed on purpose, along with most human life so that the population could be rebuilt with the human hybrids. He says that they perfected their experiments and that the tower populations are all from that experiment. They wanted a race they could control and killing off the human race and creating the story of the NWA saving them all was the only way to do that.

He then pulls out something from his coat and slams it on the table. The people sitting around look around and down at the table before looking shocked and quickly moving away. Sylar looks down to see what looks like a human hand except it is glowing blue. Myers explains that it has been doing this since he found it. Sylar quickly covers it up. Myers tells him the NWA destroyed the human race to take control of the world and that the new humans are built with Alien DNA. Sylar clicks everything into place. He knows why there is no history and no information and he now understands why the President was killed. The NWA presidents are never from the NWA, they are civilians. The president must have found out information and they had him killed.

Sylar tells Myers to go to Hindley and get the child. Myers says the lab is a fortress. Sylar gives him an ID card and tells him this will give him access to every NWA owned facility in any tower. Myers asks what Sylar will do. He says he will go back to his office and try to stay under the radar. Myers explains that his guards need to go. They will give him up for meeting with Myers. Sylar understands and tells Myers to do what he needs to. Sylar starts to walk away and his guards start to walk with him. Myers waits until they have left the bar and proceeds after them. He covers his face with a bandanna around his neck and walks quickly behind the guards. He pulls the laser sword he picked up from the train station from his side and quickly stabs each of the guards before running on and leaving the guards scrambling to their death.

Back in Bestial lower district Ahmenia and Hindley arrive back in his quarters. As they approach the room the door is ajar. Ahmenia sits Hindley down and whispers him to be quiet. She pulls out her pistol and approaches the door. As she does a huge burst of energy throws her back through the corridor. When she wakes she finds her site to be blurry and cannot recognize the man standing in front of her. She looks around and sees another figure next to her. The man in front of her speaks wanting to know what she is looking for at Hindley's room. She says she does not know what it is but even if she did she would not tell him. As her site clears she sees that Hindley is the figure sitting next to her, gagged and bloody from the beating he has taken.

The man steps forward and tells her that if she wants to stop looking like Hindley then she should tell the truth now. She asks who he is and he politely apologizes for his rudeness. He introduces himself as Riddick Marquais (Ralph Fiennes), the NWA Director of Intelligence. She says she has never heard of him and he explains she is not supposed to have heard. As they continue to talk about what she was searching for he grows increasingly impatient. He slowly walks towards and his hand starts to glow a vibrant red colour. She screams awaking Hindley from his unconscious state.

Myers arrives at Hindley’s apartment to see the door ajar. He pulls out the laser sword and enters the room. Everything has been thrown about and he can see that the place has been searched. He turns to leave wondering if Hindley and Ahmenia were here when the culprits entered. Just as he goes to walk out he hears a noise. He quickly turns and turns on the laser sword. No one is there. He notices a carpet on the floor. He moves it to find a secret door. He slowly opens it and finds a young girl cowering. He tells the girl it is OK and he is here to help. She looks up at Myers and sees her eyes glowing blue. He puts out his hand and she takes it. He pulls her out and asks who she is. She says she has never been given a name. He asks where she is from and she says that her whole life was spent in white room until she left with Hindley. She says they called her Pure (Dakota Fanning). He tells her that he is here to help her and that she should trust him and they leave the apartment.

As they leave several men burst through the door. Myers stands in front of Pure and he turns on his laser sword. As he does several other men burst through the window behind them. They are surrounded. Myers in outnumbered and knows he cannot win. He looks at Pure with desperation in his eyes. She looks at him and starts to glow blue. The attackers look on wary of what is happening. She stretches her arms out wide and a burst of light throws the 6 men backwards. They quickly recover and shoot at Myers and Pure but their laser bolts repel back hitting each man and killing them. Myers turns to hope looking confused and amazed at the same time. He says that they have a lot to talk about where they are going.

Sylar takes a call from Myers. He says that Hindley and Ahmenia are not at the apartment and that it had been searched. Sylar asks if he found anything but Myers not knowing who to trust says no. Sylar says there have been a lot of communications since his return saying that a wanted man and woman have been captured and being held in NWA Security Level 5 in Bestial. Myers knows how difficult it will be to get them out but sets off to anyway.

On route he asks Pure about the glowing and the powers she possesses. She explains that she has always had them. The people that held her captive also had the powers and that Myers has them as well. Myers is bemused at what he has heard but needs to know more. He is skeptical about powers and magic and more so about the revelation that he has them as well. They arrive at NWA Security. He tells Pure that she needs to hide but she says she will help in freeing the man that freed her. Myers tells her it is too dangerous but she begins to glow all over and with a wry smile tell him that she can handle herself.

Myers walks into the facility and gives a nod to the guard at the desk. He swipes his pass and the door open. The guard at the desk looks up at Myers and begins to approach his laser pistol. As he raises out of his chair he is engulfed in a blue energy and flies across the room knocking him out. Pure walks in and tells him he is a wanted man. Myers asks what she means. She leads him back outside where a large screen reporting that Myers is wanted for the assassination of previous NWA President Dalsha Simms.

Myers quickly turns to go back inside. There are 7 more guards. One guard shoots a bolt of red energy at Pure knocking her down. Myers turns on his laser sword and runs towards the men. Pure raises out her hand and puts a blue energy field around Myers which protects him from the red energy being thrown at him. He attacks the men and notices that his speed and reactions are vastly superior to normal. He takes the guards out in a matter of seconds. He returns to Pure who is very weak. She tells him that the he needs to go to the wasteland to the old Eastern quarter. There will be a tall building called the Empire State Building. In there is a community of people that can help him. Look for a man called Obenkin Sendar. She says that he will teach him. He asks what she means by teach but she closes her eyes and her body becomes limp. She is dead.

Angry and annoyed he stands up and enters the elevator. Using the pass that Sylar had given him he goes up to level 5. As the doors open he quickly runs through and takes out the two guards standing in the foyer. He looks around at a large lab full of scientists. He walks in and takes a scientist by the neck and holds the laser sword to his neck. He asks where they are holding the prisoners. The scientist wastes no time in telling them. He takes the scientist with him to the room at the far end of the lab. He knocks on the door. A small hatch opens and a guard sees Myers and the scientist. He quickly scrambles for his laser pistol but the laser sword is thrust through the door and into the chest of the guard. He throws the scientist to the ground and cuts through the door to create a way in.

In there he finds Ahmenia tied from the ceiling by her hands battered and bruised. He cuts her down. She has enough energy to say that they have killed Hindley before falling unconscious. He heads out of the lab and another scientist raises an alarm. He gets back to the ground floor with Ahmenia in his arms. He runs out and jumps into a cab and speeds off before any guards arrive. He calls Sylar and tells him what has happened. Sylar seems strange and different to before. He tells Myers to come to the presidential office where he will give them a safe haven. Myers knows this is not the best course of action and suspects something more sinister. He tells Sylar that he will be there soon. He tells the driver of the cab to drop them at the city limits. He no longer trusts Sylar and instead intends to go into the wastelands where Pure spoke about.

Back in the presidential office Sylar sits in his chair. He looks up at a man sitting opposite him. He tells the man that things are not going as planned. Hindley and the control subject are dead. That means the science teams no longer have a purebred to test on. He continues to tell the man that Subject A suspects something and can no longer rely on him to provide evidence of the other purebreds location. The man looks up with a wry smile and says that actually everything is going perfectly and the next phase is now underway. He raises his hand onto the desk to reveal an alien hand similar to the one Myers found glowing red. He then says soon there will be more test subjects and they will provide the secrets to provide the ultimate power to control the world. We then see the man to be that of Dalsha Simms (Gary Oldman).

Stark’s Comment:

INNERTURMOIL

Sci-Fi / Thriller

The Cast: Damian Lewis, Michael C. Hall, Jason Bateman, Rebecca Romijn, Juliette Lewis, Michael Keaton

The Director: Lodge Kerrigan
The Screenwriter: Josh Collins

The Plot:

A man (D. Lewis) who is used to being stepped out and given the short end of the stick wakes up one day feeling completely different. He starts doing things he wouldn't normally do like stick it to his boss (M. Keaton) and quit his job. He stands up to his verbally abusive girlfriend (J. Lewis) he defends himself when thugs in bars or off the street try to mug him. He also starts having flashbacks of a past that looks like he had lived but it's not his life.

He starts to like this "new him" but his enjoyment of it is put to a hault when the things he wouldn't normally do turn into a life of crime. He commits armed robbery on strangers off the street and in the bank. The cops catch wind of this one man crime spree and are on the hunt (led by M.C.Hall) once this man takes the life of a few innocent people, he desperately tries to figure out what is going on with himself.

A secret organization that specializes in alternate reality cases (led by J. Bateman and R. Romijn) get to him before the cops do and explain to him that many humans if not all create alternate dimensions to the choices they make. They create 'what-ifs' all the time. Some are as useless as wanting to know what if you had spaghetti for dinner instead of meatloaf. But there are other sadistic what-ifs as well. What if you killed your boss if you knew you could get away with it. This is what's happened to the lead character. His alternate reality which he's created is taking over his choices. And since many of his choices have been negative and sadistic, his alternate version of himself is.

By the end of the film the man figures the only way to stop himself is to throw himself off of a skyscraper roof when the lead cop on his tail fails to negotiate with him.

Stark’s Comment:
We are going to release this one with much lesser hype than ‘New World’. It has not been a too expensive production. So, if our promotional and marketing campaign is right, we could turn this one into a nice underdog release that might become a nice surprise.

Behind The Scenes:
-This screenplay was written by Josh Collins more than two years ago. At some point during its long waiting period, Collins considered to definitely cancel it but then changed his mind.
-For so long, Jonathan Demme was going to be the man to direct this movie. But when the project finally got green light, Demme was busy working on ‘The Resurrected’, so Lodge Kerrigan was urgently appointed to replace him.
-Michael Madsen, one of the most demanded talents this Season, was offered to be in this movie too. He could not make place for it in his busy agenda so Michael Keaton replaced him.
-Michael C. Hall was also the replacement of the initially considered Jude Law. Law just wasn’t interested to be in this movie.

GUITAR HERO

Comedy / Teen

The Cast: Michael Cera, Zac Efron, Emma Roberts, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez. Cameos by Beyoncé Knowles, Aerosmith

The Director: Jay Roach
The Screenwriter: Steve Connors

The Plot:

Michael is the typical nerd. Shy, unpopular, no success with girls at all. He is also a Guitar Hero, the console game, junkie. As he is a kind of genius with computers, he has created a program that allows him to compose his own guitar pieces and he is a wonderful artist both playing and composing with the fake guitar of the game. He dreams with showing the world his music. His problem is that he does not know how to play a real guitar and when he tries to learn he just can’t.

So he has a plan. He contacts Zac, the opposite to him: the most popular guy imaginable. As charismatic, handsome and attractive as selfish and brainless. Michael offers Zac a deal. Michael has created a sophisticated wireless device. With it, he can play the fake guitar and then a real guitar reproduces automatically what he plays. So Zac only has to pretend he’s playing a real guitar and Michael will make the music with his fake guitar. First, Zac ignores Michael but when Michael tells him that a guitar star can have all the girls he wants, Zac finally accepts to pretend being a cool rock guitarist.

The plan works amazingly. Zac begins to play in local clubs. He pretends to play the real guitar on stage while Michael is the one really playing his fake guitar hiding on backstage. Soon, Zac is contacted by a big record company. In only a few weeks, Zac has been vamped as a new rock star nationwide.

So we follow Zac’s rise to stardom while Michael pretends to be his personal assistant. Zac is in the cover of every girls’ magazines. He appears at the most popular tv shows. Paparazzis chase him while he dates young stars like Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez and gossips about his romances collapse the net.

Michael and Zac’s relationship gets more and more complicated. The selfish and brainless Zac behaves more and more like a big star and mistreats Michael, who is beginning to hate him more and more too. Things get worse when Emma Roberts enters in their life. Emma is the latest teen star of Disney Channel. She should be another egotistic selfish star but she is not. Surprisingly, she is the nicest sweetest girl.

Emma is the only girl who says no to Zac when he tries to have a date with her, as she finds him simply stupid. But Zac is not used to rejection. So he asks Michael for help. Zac tries to captivate Emma following all Michael’s advises to do it. The problem is that Michael has fallen in love with Emma.

In some way, the shy Michael lives his own story with Emma through Zac. But that’s driving him crazy as his advises are helping Zac to beat her resistance and she seems to be falling in love with Zac. When Michael sees Zac finally kissing Emma, he decides everything’s got to end.

A nationwide competition of the most experts Guitar Hero players is going on. Michael is in it, competing in it against nerds, freaks and all kind of peculiar experts on the game. Michael beats them all and gets to the final.

But the Final is going to take place exactly the same day and the same hour that Zac is playing guitar as a guest musician in an spectacular Aerosmith’s gig. When he tells Zac, they have a big fight as Zac obliges him to stay beside him playing his fake guitar at backstage as usual.

Michael decides to tape his music so Zac will be able to pretend playing at the show as usual while he in fact is at the Guitar Hero Competition’s final.

It all comes to a hilarious situation with Zac on stage with Steve Tyler and the rest of Aerosmith and the taped music failing and Zac getting lost and trying to improvise and playing terribly to everyone’s surprise.

At the same time, Michael wins the Competition and his skill with the fake guitar is so amazing that he can be seen in all tv stations and internet as the wonderful fake guitar composer and player he is.

Some months pass…

Beyoncé is presenting the Grammy Awards. And she introduces on stage Michael. Michael is the first fake guitar player in the world that has recorded an album and it has surprisingly become a top 1 at the billboard. Young music stars like Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez have collaborated with him in the album putting their voice to Michael’s songs… and teen magazines are full with rumors about both stars being in love with him and fighting for Michael’s heart.

As the Grammy Awards ceremony is being broadcast on tv, there’s a break in the show and we see an advance of an upcoming tv show: it’s one of those survival reality shows with decadent and forgotten stars that takes place at the Amazon jungle. We see Zac as one of the stars of the show, being eaten alive by wild mosquitoes and pretending to be a brave jungle man in a most ridiculous way.

At the end of the Grammies Ceremony, Michael finds Emma and, although Miley has invited him to a promising private party, he asks Emma if she would like to go with him for a hamburger and a coke. She gladly says yes.

Stark’s Comment:
Connors makes a parody of teen comedies and Disney’s teen idols in this peculiar movie. Efron, Miley and Selena laugh at their own public image. A peculiar proposal. I have no idea if this is going to work or not.

Behind The Scenes:
-Jay Roach has directed before for CMP three comedies: ‘Entertaining Mrs. Sullivan’, the very first CMP’s release; ‘Poor Little Rich Boy’ and ‘Check, Please’.
-Michael Cera has been seen before in CMP in ‘Lyin’ Wish’ and ‘The Hellbowl’.
-Emma Roberts’ last work for CMP was the nostalgic ‘Haight-Ashbury’.
-Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez are all making their CMP’s debut.

SUPERMAN: LAST SON: Name finally made public. And the talent to play Superman in this James Mangold’s movie written by Dawson Edwards is… Henry Cavill! Cavill is best known for his work in the acclaimed tv series ‘The Tudor’. This way, he becomes the successor of Christopher Reeve, Brandon Rough and Nicholas Cage (who will still play the superhero from Krypton in ‘Justice League 2’, as it is known). Cavill was chosen personally by Dawson Edwards and this movie will mean his explosive debut in CMP.

WHAT YOU DESERVE: Al Pacino returns to CMP after quite some time away with this thriller directed by DJ Caruso. Last time we saw him was playing the villain of ‘The Avengers 2’. Pacino will be here the head of a criminal organization and mean husband of Carrie-Anne Moss. Also in the movie we’ll see John Malkovich, returning to CMP after an even longer absence. Malkovich made a voice only work in ‘F-Zero’ but last time he was seen on screen in a CMP’s movie was back in Season 5 with ‘The Toymaker’.

GAME OF TRUTH: James Bradley returns to the thriller with this new movie, a genre he likes to visit from time to time. This time, he has written an espionage story involving the MI6 and the CIA. To direct it, the chosen one has been Marc Forster, who has directed before for CMP ‘Altered States’. And the main appeal of the movie will be its starring couple: the rising star in CMP Olivia Wilde, seen this Season starring ‘One Night Stand’, and no other than the GMA Winner Daniel Day-Lewis, playing a mysterious spy accused of being a double agent.

TOONS: Green light for this very peculiar Matt Kubrick’s pitch. Here is an adult animated feature. The movie tells the story – full of sex, drugs and violence – of a sexy female feline and a porn movies director getting involved in dirty business. The very creative master in adult animation, Ralph Bakshi, has accepted to direct the movie, that is expected to be ranked no less than ‘NC-17’.

BASED ON REAL LIFE: After the nice breakout of ‘Sunshine On Lonely Street’, Trent Nielsen returns to comedy with this story about a guy trying to succeed in Hollywood making a fake autobiographical movie. Marc Webb, responsible of the acclaimed CMP’s comedy ‘The Bus’ – not to mention the very influential ‘500 Days Of Summer’ – returns to the Studio with this comedy that will be starred by Topher Grace, seen this Season in the blockbuster ‘Invasion’.

DANIEL: As it has been said, this drama about an African kid that turns to be a piano genius has quite a few similarities with this Season’s acclaimed drama ‘Rebel’. One of the main similarities are some of the cast members: Djimon Hounsou and Tariji P.Henson, both seen in ‘Rebel’, will also be seen in this one.

TURN OF A FRIENDLY CARD: Michael Cera and singer Beyoncé have met in this week’s release ‘Guitar Hero’. And they will meet again next Season in this Richard Franzwa’s movie being directed by Paul WS. Anderson. Cera will play a wealthy guy that wants to learn from Russell Crowe how to be tough while Beyoncé will make a brief appearance replacing Claire Danes, who refused to play a minor role in the movie. Billy Bob Thornton has also joined the cast to play a Vegas high roller. Thornton replaces Al Pacino, who could not be in this movie as he is already shooting ‘What You Deserve’.

METROID: Some voice only works in this movie: Uma Thurman and Kiefer Sutherland’s voices will be heard as the father and mother of Charlize Theron’s character. And Vin Diesel will put his voice to a digitally generated super-giant reptilian.

ASSASSIN’S CREED 2: Ralph Fiennes, who can be seen this week in ‘New World’, has quickly joined the shootage of this Peter Jackson’s movie in which he plays the main villain: the ambitious Rodrigo Borgia, who in facts becomes the new Pope of Rome. And Colin Farrell will have two new adventures mates in the movie: Jim Sturgess, returning to CMP after ‘The Beatles’, and the CMP’s debutante Shannyn Sossamon.

VIXEN: Danny Trejo will be Michelle Rodriguez’s boss when she begins her new career as a killer for hire. Trejo had not been seen in CMP since he played the leader of a motorbikes gang in the cult exploitation movie ‘Damnation Road’.

JOHN DAWS - 'NEW WORLD'

‘New World’ hits the screens this weekend putting an end to a Season where we have had different visions of our future (‘Invasion’, ‘Metropolis’). John Daws teams up again with the Scott Brothers in an ambitious sci-fi production already announced as what’s meant to be a new CMP’s Trilogy.

1.'New World' is a huge project and at the same time it looks like a very personal one for you. Is this the movie you have ever felt more involved in your career?

Yeah. I guess so. When I write the movies I do put a lot of work into them. The first film I did was Hitman and I guess if you look at the screenplay it is very short and more of a synopsis of an idea than a screenplay. Over time I have become more confident and so they are more fleshed out. If you can imagine the screenplay for 1066...well the synopsis of New World was as long as that whole screenplay. I had the ideas and they have evolved and changed over the 5 or 6 months that I have been writing them. Many rewrites to make sure that all the films will follow canon.

2.Isn't it a risky bet already presenting it as a trilogy before knowing how will audiences react to the first installment?

Maybe but this was my thought process. I looked at some of the big films. Star Wars and Blade Runner specifically. Two great sets of films both with problems in continuity and endings etc. The problem with Star Wars was the new films were slotted in after the old films and so there are issues with canon. The story I had was so vast that it was too long for one film. So I thought that I best write all the films in advance..which I did. Then I went through and there was a lot of things out of sync. So I went through and altered things and re-wrote. The end product is going to be two or three sets of films that tell the history of this universe. I am not doing prequels and things. I will tell a story from start to finish but the best way to do that is to seperate the stories into sections becasue they will tell sets of stories from different eras of that world.

3.Patrick Stewart, Keira Knightley, Josh Holloway, the Scott Brothers... You must feel like in a family reunion here...

Its been great. Working with these guys is very natural. It is easier to write the parts when you know who will play them. The Scotts have been key to my success and we seem to have exactly the same visions each time we work on something. Keira is my luck charm. 1066 didnt have her and it lost so I have to keep her now! Patrick is one of the best actors ever. He brings a sense of class and a shaksperian quality to what is in essence a completely crazy scenario. Josh was good in He-Man and I wanted to put him in another of my films becasue he was so responsive and easy to work with on set.

4.Have Tony Scott, Patrick, Keira and you talked about resurrecting 'Hitman' now that you have all met again at a movie set?

We talk about the fun times on the set all the time. For such a serious film there was a lot of jokes and a lot of pranks. As for another film. I dont know. I left them with an open ending to continue with a different cast but Patrick and Keira are dead so will be hard to think of a way unless I do a prequel but I dont think so. The one thing I have toyed around with was exploring the Brotherhood a little more for a long long time. We know what they are and that Colins character was their assassin but we did not really explore their routes. So maybe something along those lines but it will be set hundreds of years before becasue they have been around forever.

5.Besides the sequels of 'New World', what other new projects do you have in mind?

I have been working on a London based film, another gritty drama but that has been on hold since I started on New World. I also have a second re-write of a Thundercats movie as well as The Brotherhood film I have mentioned. New World has taken a lot of my time so everything has stopped. If I do finish the those films...well I am not sure. I am very interested in making a film about uk politics. Not a sattire film but a drama. I am also thinking about a film that tells the story or Winstone Churchill and how he led the country through WWII. The other thing was a movie about the Great fire of London. Those are all just ideas at the moment and probably a while off yet seeing how long it take me now adays. The last thing, it may be time for a new CMP spoof. Lots of big films since the last warm steel gang. They were well received and one character even appeared in another film. Maybe I can put out something new. Its the Saturday Night Live of the CMP universe.

NEW WORLD
By Andrew Stampton

Today we have been given access to the set of new world. We are here on location with the stars, the writer and director of the new blockbuster movie.

The set is pretty large with a lot of set and less blue and green screen than you would imagine. I am here with the set designer to find out why they have done this.

‘From the beginning John Daws and the Scott brothers had these influences. Star Wars, Blade Runner, 1984 and the like. What they all had in common was the despite being sci-fi they were all in the realms of realism in that the sets were all real. The robots had people in them and the creatures were robots and not CGI. They said to me thats what we want wherever possible. "If we can do it without CGI and make it look good then thats what we want". So here we are with these huge towers and these special swords that actually shoot out a beam of light. I would say that for some of these actors they have never had the chance to shoot a film like this where they can actually hold the tools they are using. I have worked on many films with John Daws including the Game boy films and this is by far the most adventurous.’

The set designer walks me over to the set and I get to watch a scene with Gerard Butler in a train station. They have got an out of commision bullet train on set and have made some design changes to make it look even more futuristic. The scene is a fight scene with one of the aformentioned laser sword. It is pretty intense so do not expect a kids film. This is clearly adult themed and limbs will be coming off.

After the scene I get to meet with Gerard Butler. I get to ask him some questions.

Reporter: So this is the first time you have worked on one of John Daws' films. How is it?

Butler: This is the first time I have worked on anything like this. It is pretty amazing. There is something different about working on this film. John has a lot of control for a writer. He gets to pitch ideas about the cast and he sits there with the director and gives ideas and advice. I think he has worked with the Scott brothers so many times they have a mutual respect and trust that I have not really seen before. So for me to be in on this I know that the writer, director, producer and the studio have all signed off on me, which is really kind. Also you do not really say no to a John Daws written movie because they are always box office hits.

Reporter: Apart from 1066.

Butler: Shhh. We cannot talk about that.

Reporter: You are also kind of the new boy I guess, as most of the cast are favourites for John Daws movies.

Butler: Yeah, everyone keeps calling me Colin (Farrell) and Daneil (Radcliff). In fact on my first day they put a star on my trailer door with Colin Farrell on it. Inside the trailer they have a huge picture of him from one of the Hitman promos hanging on the wall. It is funny but they have all been so welcoming. They all know each other really well and so it is kind of easy for them. I just try to keep up.

Reporter: You are the new face opposite Kiera as well. What is that like?

Butler: Pretty amazing. She is very talented and the roles are just so perfect for her. She seems to know exactly what they are expecting. You know this is kind of a different for a John Daws film. The girl isnt a damsel in distress or a bad person. She is a strong, fierce character, who will be saving people for once instead of being saved. So I do not get to be her hero as much as other people have.

Reporter: They say she is Daws' muse. Any truth in that?

Butler: Maybe. They spend a huge amount of time off set together. Again having a writer on set, spending so much time with us all, is rare. He does it for all his movies and so knows a lot of these people really well. He and Keira have a special relationship though. They are always off together, talking and joking and things. It really is like they are best friends really.

Butler gets called away and I get to watch the rest of the days shoot. At the end of it I get to speak with Ridley Scott about the film.

Reporter: Hi Ridely. Thanks for talking with me, I guess you must be tired.

Ridley: I am, its been a long day. A long couple of weeks really.

Reporter: What drew you to this film.

Ridley: John Daws did. This is his Star Wars. It has emotion, action, story and I have the pleasure of knowing the whole story. This film sets things up for some truely stellar things. We know where it goes. We know it goes much further than this one allows and we know people are gonna love it.

Reporter: We understand that you guys have a lot of influences for this film. Will some people think it is a rip off?

Ridley: I dont think so. We make homages to things. The laser tools are clearly referencing lightsabers, the world clearly represents blade runner, the government is like 1984. We have not been shy in our influences but instead embraced them.

Reporter: You are using lots of real props and sets. Different really by todays standards.

Ridley: I said at the beginning that if we are making our star wars meets blade runner we need to think about those films and I said that one of the best things I did was the Alien film. The reason it was good was because of the sets and the monster and it was all real. We had to go back to that as long as it looked real by todays standard. I did not want to go avatar but I did not want it to look like puppets either. Luckily our FX team are pretty much the best in the business so it will look great.

Reporter: So you talk about blade runner alot. That is one of your films, some say your masterpiece. Is that not strange when someone says they want to better it?

Ridley: I do not think anyone said they want to better it. It stands on its own and so will this film. John wants to create his New World not his blade runner. He was just influenced by it. I am just greatful to be associated with both. This is very much a different film, with a different story and different outcome. Once you watch it you will not see blade runner you will see New World and you will know the difference.

I thank Ridley and as he leaves John Daws and Kiera Knightly walk in and sit down with a smile on their faces.

John Daws: I thought you may wanna ask some questions to us before you leave. Have you enjoyed your day?

Reporter: Yes very much so. Thank you for giving us so much access.

John Daws: Its OK. We get to put this on the DVD for free (laughs).

Reporter: OK. Well tell us about this film.

John Daws: I have been working on it for a long time. I have written the whole thing and so know where everything is going. In fact I bet there is no cannon mistakes in any of the films. None of this 'how comes no one knows who R2D2 is if he was around with Obi Wan from the beginning' stuff. It will be epic, it will get bigger and it will be eye popping. It is a new film idea, an original film idea and it tells a story that has not been told like this before.

Reporter: I assume Kiera was in mind from the start.

John Daws: No she was 6th choice.

Kiera: Hey. What do you mean?

John Daws: Dont worry, you was gonna be in the film but a different part.

Reporter: What part?

John Daws: Girl who gets kidnapped and saved.

Kiera: Same old, same old.

Reporter: You two clearly get on very well. Is it easy working on films together?

Kiera: Very much so. I do not even read the script anymore. He could give me any part and I know it will be perfect. Its good to have so much imput from the writer. His vision. Its even better when the directors and producers share that vision. They work off each other like nothing I have ever seen. It is pretty amazing to see them getting excited about a scene we have just shot. Not because we done it well but because they all had an idea after which will make it better. They jump up to the set and start acting it out and saying how it can be better and it is great to watch.

John Daws: Also funny seeing Tony (Scott) playing the part of Kiera.

Reporter: Your Best of friends then?

John Daws: More than that. We are getting married!

Reporter: Really?

Kiera: Yeah John, really?

John Daws: No. Just a pipe dream.

Reporter: So the film will be coming out soon. What do you want to say about it?

John Daws: This film will be big. This film will be fun. The film will tell a great interesting story.

And that was it. The film looks to be pretty epic. It is a fun working environment and everyone is having a blast. From what I can see this will be a big new franchise and I look forward to seeing the great sets on the big screen very soon.

CMP’S MOST FAMOUS CONTROVERSIES

It may seem as CMP is always a happy world. But it is not. From time to time, controversies show up to prove that it’s not always sunny side up at Harry Stark’s Studio. The latest controversy has taken place between Josh Collins and Lindsay Lohan. But there have been lots of them before. This week, we take a look at the most famous CMP’s duels.

DOWNEY JR. vs NORTON vs BLOOM
Battle scenario: The Avengers
The reason: A reason to fight as old as mankind itself: ego and jealousy. Who was the leader of the Avengers? Who deserved to be highlighted in the marketing campaign of the movies?
And the winner is…: Orlando Bloom (Hawkeye) decided to leave the franchise after the second movie to star his own Hawkeye movie. Edward Norton (Hulk) left it after the third one and Hulk was digitally generated in ‘The Avengers 4: Civil War’. Also director and producer Gore Verbinski left the saga after the third movie tired of so many internal conflicts. So Downey Jr. (Iron Man) can be considered the winner as last survivor of the battle of the egos.

SCOTT vs STARK
Battle scenario: The Crusades
The reason: This is probably the first big controversy in CMP’s History. Ridley Scott was going to direct ‘The Crusades’ during its pre-production phase and Russell Crowe was going to star it. But when budget begun to rise over planned, Harry Star begun to get nervous and to press Scott demanding him to control expenses. Finally, Scott decided to abandon the film and Crowe followed him.
And the winner is…: Paul Verhoeven replaced Ridley Scott and Ethan Hawke replaced Crowe. The movie became a big blockbuster and won the Best Picture GMA. So Harry Stark won the battle after all.

PITT vs HAMMER
Battle scenario: Deadly Force
The reason: Problems between Jack Hammer and Brad Pitt came from the past. They already had strong creative differences with ‘Dakota North’, a western written by Hammer, starred by Angelina Jolie, directed by Clint Eastwood and produced by Brad Pitt (and legend says that George Clooney acted like a kind of production advisor). When Hammer decided to develop a third installment of the ‘Hot Iron’ franchise, Pitt made a condition to star it: he wanted to produce it too. And things weren’t exactly peaceful at the set between Hammer and Pitt…
And the winner is…: A tie here. After all, ‘Deadly Force’ became a big hit. And Hammer, Pitt, Jolie and Clooney seemed to definitely make peace getting all together again to make the blockbuster ‘To Catch A Thief’.

BECKINSALE vs COLLINS
Battle scenario: The Rock Star
The reason: A rude comment made by Josh Collins about Beckinsale after the release of the movie turned into one of the most famous CMP’s controversies.
And the winner is…: Josh Collins. He publicly apologized, proving that he had just made a silly mistake. He behaved as a gentleman and Beckinsale quickly forgave him. A happy ending.

COLLINS vs FINCHER
Battle scenario: LA WOLF 2
The reason: A professional one this time. David Fincher had directed ‘LA Wolf’. But when the sequel was greenlighted, Collins decided to replace him behind the cameras with JJ Abrams. Abrams refused the offer. And then Collins offered the job to Fincher. But now Fincher didn’t want to be ‘second choice’. Finally, David Ayer directed the movie.
And the winner is…: Fincher: the controversy kept him away from directing a movie that didn’t work.

EDWARDS vs O’CALLAGHAN
Battle scenario: Edwards’ early movies
The reason: For some unknown reason, movie reviewer Jackie O’Callaghan seemed to hate each and every story written by Dawson Edwards. She systematically ripped off each new release coming from him. But the increasing quality of each new Edwards’ story finally shut her mouth.
And the winner is…: Dawson Edwards by KO.

SINGER vs STARK
Battle scenario: Captain America
The reason: After producing the first ‘Captain America’ movie, directed by Brett Ratner, Joey Stark and Bryan Singer – who had also teamed up at the ‘T.Y.M.’ franchise – had strong creative differences when planning its sequel. Finally, Singer abandoned the saga and Tim Burton successfully took control of it.
And the winner is…: Singer and Stark signed piece a few Seasons later and became again a successful working team with the Silver Sable’s movies.

DAWS vs CONNORS
Battle scenario: The Revengers
The reason: Steve Connors decided to revamp his character Ultraman, played by Eddie Murphy, writing a parody of the Avengers’ movies. In it, Ultraman teamed up with Lieutenant USA (Steve Carell), the famous character created by John Daws. Connors used the character without Daws’ permission, thinking that Daws had definitely retired from CMP. Daws complained about it.
And the winner is…: None. We all lose. Connors decided not to write ‘The Revengers 2’. Daws decided not to write ‘Lieutenant USA 3’. And we, the audience, have lost the chance to watch those two promising comedies.

TAYLOR vs CAGE
Battle scenario: Justice League 2
The reason: When starting the pre-production phase of JL2, Taylor thought that Cage was too old to play Superman and considered to replace him. Cage, who was the man that originally convinced Harry Stark to put up a Justice League’s franchise, got mad and threaten with a legal action. Finally, Taylor stepped back and Cage will be in JL2.
And the winner is…: Nicholas Cage. He will not only be in ‘Justice League 2’ but also will star an upcoming Taylor’s drama. Cage has stated that he will abandon the saga after this sequel and a new Superman (probably Henry Cavill) will take his place in a possible ‘Justice League 3’.

Comedy, it's such a hard art to master, especially since it's a subjective form of entertainment. What one person finds hilarious, someone else will find repulsive. If you have no sense in comedic timing or delivery, you are just going to fall flat. The films I carefully listed which make the cut may not have all been kneeslapping funny; some may have had dramatic elements. But I'm sure we can all agree that when it came to hilarity, these films delivered with excellent execution. Hopefully this list will help writers in the future research what works as a comedy and what doesn't.

FOOL'S GAME IF you really want to see great sense of comedy, pick up any number of James Bradley's films. You'll notice that on this list, he has the most comedies which made the cut. The humor was sophisticated, subtly playing down the laughs and not trying to be funny. In doing so, Bradley became synonymous with adult humor in CMP. Fool's Game was his first of the Wes Anderson fables and certainly one of the best. It earned many prestigious GMAs including a win for best screenplay. A category which Bradley has been quite familiar with winning.

BILL AND THE ROCKET MAN Once again, James ends up on the list with another Wes Anderson Fable. The story of a lonely man with an imaginary superhero friend. The film was as sad as it was funny, and these tend to work much better in the comedy genre than the straight-up comedies. It was a comedy which offered layers, dimensions of a character. Something we rarely see in modern comedies these days.

CONTRACT KILLING FOR DUMMIES This dark adult comedy penned by the now retired Ted Froats also offered something totally different for us to look at when analyzing what it means to have a comedy. The characters were placed in situations where everything just got worse for them. 'A Simple Plan' comes to mind. It shows us that bad things can happen to good people, and they can get themselves in over their head. Realistic characters come to mind: Hey, we're human, sometimes we'll just keep screwing up. Nice work, Froats, who could be a huge contender against Bradley's comedy throne had he stuck around a bit longer.

PAPERBACK STORY A Bradley film which hardly gets remembered when we look at his bigger work, but a Paperback Story is a well thought out sophisticated(again I use that word) story. The great cast not usually associated in comedies(Sean Connery) also helps the greatness of the film. The characters are fantastic to get into. It seems as if the better and more real your characters are, the better your comedy will be.

CAROUSEL Again, Ted Froats' name appears on the list. Musicals often are related to comedy. They're entertaining as a comedy should be. It would be a shame to leave off this list a film which held the title of 'most nominated AND winning GMAs' for many seasons.

NO MORE BUSH! John Daws is also in the running for being the most consistent in comedy writing. No More Bush! was certainly the film that really showed his brilliance in the genre. Yes, we're aware that it has a couple of the most annoying comedy stars(Ferrell and Carell), but you can't deny that this political satire is certainly worth a mention. Don't be afraid to make fun of something. This world is so PC nowadays, "oh waah, I don't wanna hurt his feelings" shut up.

ONLY IN AMERICA Yet again, Froats owns the musical/comedy genre with yet again another political movie; taking what was going on in the country at the time and having fun with it. The cast was stellar in their roles, portraying certain political figures. It won best picture at the GMAs, a feat not easily achieved with many comedy movies come awards time.

LYRA Before this film came out, Josh Collins was the man for drama. He made a couple of attempts, but none of them even came close to this beautiful story of the cause and effects of coming out of the closet as a teenager. A quirky comedy often associated with the other big quirky comedy at the time, Juno, Lyra was able to stand on its own. It was the characters and the decisions they made which helped make this film so loved by comedy enthusiasts.

THE CRITIC John Daws adds a different flavor to the comedy genre. Not as sophisticated as Bradley's films, not as satirical as Froats' films and it was the first in CMP of its kind: a mockumentary. The film that survived tremendously with the help of the star Patrick Stewart. Before the film, did anyone think Mr. Stewart could be funny?

MARY'S DARK SIDE A mature comedy not written by James Bradley? Are we sure we got the names correct? Steve Connors manages to score his big win with this fantastic film which helped solidify Kate Hudson's stardom in the CMP studio, having won her first GMA with it and coming off fresh from her other nomination in a drama film. Yes, Steve Connors has too made many comedies before Mary's Dark Side, but this film earned him the most rightfully deserving recognition.

WOODLAND CREATURES You'll notice that films oriented to families and kids didn't really make the cut on this list. That actually is for a list at a later time, since those should be given a fair chance and are a special kind of 'comedy.' Woodland Creatures is the only film on this list specifically geared towards all ages. This parody of animated movies involving cuddly creatures was brilliantly done in a way we haven't seen before, the actors dressed up as animals the entire film, and the writer Josh Collins knows that it can't be done a second time without taking a severe blow from critics and movie goers. Woodland is a special movie: There wasn't a lot of faith going into the film, the pitch looked absolutely terrifying. But audiences responded to it, and boy did they ever with a huge box office return.

THE MIRACLE MEN Yet again, sophistication rules all. This incredibly great film showed off a side of Will Ferrell we're not used to. It made him a prestigious actor by getting a GMA nomination out of it(granted it was for best starring couple, but an actor like Will should be proud of getting THAT much). Many times, comedy movies tend to focus on likeable characters. Not that it's a bad thing, being likeable attributes to being funny. But Bradley dared us to laugh with these unlikeable guys. We had another film which you won't see on any future comedy lists that had an unlikeable character faking cancer to get famous; but it's Miracle Men with its subtle humor and layered characters which stood the better chance of survival as we followed a couple of bad guys around.

NUDE! Lyra + Juno = Nude! That seems to be the common formula when speaking of this movie. James Bradley yet again makes an astonishing comedy starring an average girl showing that it's okay to be average. His touch of subtle humor is still present, his originality brings those who love writing comic-book adaptations for the studio to shame. Speaking of a shame, it's a damn shame the film wasn't as awarded as it should have been: It earned a win for best original concept, but not a nomination for best screenplay. Can't win them all, James, but this film only solidifies the fact that if you want advice on writing a great comedy, he is the guy to go to.

THE BUS Chad Taylor's first mention in this list, The Bus is certainly a deserving film to be on such a list. The quirky characters and situations, the sophistication and subtle humor all make this film so surprisingly brilliant. Usually it's the most simple of ideas that can make a person stand out. Chad was original with this story, even if you think it's simply about a guy's many encounters on a bus.

SCHROEDINGERS LITTERBOX Can you really mix science fiction and comedy? Many times, we associated genres as being about adventure and action, rarely do we find science fiction and comedy in the same film: unless of course it's Mel Brooks' Spaceballs. I know there's more sci-fi comedies out there, but I'm just making a point. Ben Tyler, who unfortunately is semi-retired, made an impressive debut with this Zach Braff film. I make note of the lead actor because he has been around since the beginning making comedy films and has stayed consistent as a comedy actor. Schroedinger is a little bit of a mindboggler for a comedy, but it worked very well earning Tyler a best screenplay victory in his debut.

In conclusion, having made this list I see that if any writer really wants to make a good comedy film that can end up on a future list recognizing the genre, advice is to 'make 'em laugh without trying to make 'em laugh' just write your film and the comedy will come out on its own.

Disney’s stars also find their place in CMP’s world. Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez make their CMP’s debut this week with the parodic comedy ‘Guitar Hero’. In it, they both laugh at their own stereotype as teen stars. But both looked as big teen stars anyway at the premiere of the movie. We could see them there together with Michael Cera.

Season 14 reaches its end and everybody’s eyes are put in what can we expect in Season 15. One thing for sure is that next Season will be released the fifth installment of the most acclaimed and profitable CMP’s saga, ‘The Dark Tower’. And Sam Raimi has confirmed in a recent press conference that, same way he did with the fourth movie, he will be producing it but not directing it, as he did with the first three movies. Jean-Pierre Jeunet, director of the fourth movie, ‘Wolves Of The Calla’, won’t return this time. According to Raimi’s words, ‘this fifth episode is a very complex one, full of CGI, strange creatures, action… In some way, it’s the one closest to the looks of a comic’. So Raimi confirmed that he and Matt Kubrick are looking for somebody with a strong and highly peculiar visual style to direct it. Raimi also confirmed during the conference that there will be a sixth and last movie of the franchise.

It won’t be released next Season for sure. But the question is: will it ever be? ‘Star Wars: Holocron Initiative’ worked correctly in box office but it didn’t became the huge blockbuster expected. What nobody knows right now at CMP’s offices is how has that affected Dawson Edwards. Has he discouraged of going on with this new Star Wars’ saga? No news about a screenplay for a sequel are known at CMP and big boss Harry Stark has confirmed some of his employees that not even him knows what are Edwards’ plans about it.

Probably, it won’t be released next Season neither. But it is obvious that after the surprising success of ‘The Resurrected’, the saga about the heir of ‘The Heirs’ has suddenly turned into a main CMP’s franchise. In this case, I have been told that Chad Taylor has already written the screenplay of a third movie. It has no release date yet but it is for sure that this time CMP will treat the release of it as a major event, considering the wonderful numbers made by ‘The Resurrected’.

I do know somebody who must be looking forward for the new Season to begin. I am talking about Mr. The Flash, Joshua Jackson. It seems like after the big success of ‘The Flash: Blitz’, Dawson Edwards has decided to make Jackson his new fetish actor. Next Season can be the final launching of the star from the tv show ‘Fringe’ to the A-list of CMP’s stars. He is already shooting the action thriller ‘What You Deserve’. But I’ve been told that Season 15’s shooting schedule has been adapted to allow Jackson to show up not only in that one but in some other upcoming Edwards’ stories. My confidants from CMP joke about it calling Season 15 as ‘The Joshua Jackson Season’.

And two other talents are expected to gain presence in CMP too soon. The starring couple of ‘Sunshine On Lonely Street’, Adam Brody and Abbie Cornish, have both signed the contracts to be in new CMP’s movies. It seems like both have made a nice impact on CMP’s authors cause, since ‘Sunshine…’ was released only a few weeks ago, their names are suddenly appearing in many cast proposals of new pitches.
