THE MOVING THUMBS

1-SAVING SAMANTHA MOSS

"A brilliant movie. It is a pleasure to see so deep characters. This is not a movie with goods and bads. All the characters in the story have a dark side and that's what makes the story so interesting. David Fincher knows how to make this kind of thrillers and after this one, it is interesting to see what writer Ted Froats can offer in the future"
-Jack Baxter, ‘Hollywood Reporter’

"This is a movie unfairly treated by audiences. The problems with this movie are pretty similar to the ones with another recent flop, 'The Passion Beneath'. It is not a classic Hollywood story. There's not a hero or a standard love story. Almost all the characters die. And audiences reject movies without happy endings as much as they hate watching how their favourites stars are murdered. A shame. Luckily, not all the movies are boy-meets-girl-and-live-happily-ever-after. But, with this box office results, it will get harder and harder to watch intelligent stories like this in the screens"
-Charlie Kiggs, ‘Variety’

"David Fincher settles a great dramatic and thrilling situation. But he doesn't know how to solve it. So he just turns the movie into a shoot'em up story where everybody dies. The first hour is mastery. The second hour is disappointing"
-Matt Davies, ‘ET’

"David Fincher returns to the directors chair with this thriller. It's a complex movie that will have you glued to the screen. Trust me if you miss a minute of this movie you'll want to slap yourself. On a scale from 1-4 I give this movie a 3. The way the movie is edited can be confusing at times."
-Sam Elliot, 'The Blog Reviews'

2-WESTWORLD

"The formula: Jurassic Park x (Blade Runner + The Island) = Westworld"
-Bob Felton, ‘Entertainment Weekly’

"Funny. This movie is a remake. But, at the same time, it's got the most original premise I've seen in years. Bay has made a movie much better than the original one. Thrilling, claustrophobic, entertaining and surprising. He has known how to handle the wonderful material he had to make one of the best sci-fi movies done in quite a long time".
-Anne Roman, ‘At the Movies’

"Intelligent entertainment. Bay has controlled his worst habits as director (noisy soundtracks to remark action, fast sequences full of cuts, abuse of slow-motion) to make a sci-fi thriller built on the original idea of an amusement park where you can meet your movie myths. Probably, his best movie ever."
-Jill St. Hills, ‘The Newyorker’

"Westworld is probably the best action movie of the season. This one had it all: great acting, superb direction, and a script packing a sting in the tail that I never saw coming. It blows the original away. A guaranteed contender at the next Golden Moon Awards."
-Sid Carter, 'The Blog Reviews'

"Here comes another big bloated epic remake of a cult classic. It's about clones of famous people and how you can pay to hang out with them and soon they all go berserk and start killing the guests. The original was called Westworld and was mostly set in the wild west but this remake doesn't have anything to do with the wild west. Some of the action set pieces are impressive and there are some good cameos here but some of the acting from duchovny is quite wooden. On a scale of 1-4 I give this a 2."
-Sam Elliot, 'The Blog Reviews'

THE STAR PROFILE – ANGELINA JOLIE

Angelina Jolie is one of the most demanded stars by screenwriters and directors in CMP. But it hasn’t been until ‘Westworld’ that she has had a box office hit for the Studio. The idea of playing a mean Lara Croft in ‘Westworld’ liked her so much and she took the right decision accepting the offer, as she has become now the lead female star of CMP’s Top 1 movie.

FILMOGRAPHY

SAM & TWITCH (Matt Kubrick, B.O. 14 mill.): Jolie’s debut in CMP was just making a cameo in this risky production based in a popular comic. She played a peculiar character: an attractive femme fatale suffering of inferiority complex.

WILD CARDS (Matt Kubrick, B.O.: 39 mill.): Kubrick called again Angelina, this time for a starring role. She was Chrysalis, the owner of a bordello, always protected by her loyal Samuel L. Jackson. The movie was a critic success, but a financial flop. It is probable that she will return to play this character in the upcoming sequel.

WESTWORLD (Michael Bay, B.O.: 155 mill). Bay, producer of ‘Wild Cards’, also wanted to repeat with her. Angelina redefined her most famous character, Lara Croft, transformed in a mean clone with self ideas. And audiences responded wildly to the concept. Finally, Angelina has succeeded in a CMP’s movie.

…and the future: She will probably be back in Wild Cards’ sequel. And beside that, there are rumours about a western that she could star for CMP. Whatever, one thing is for sure: Angelina will show up again in CMP’s movies in the future.

HE SAID, SHE SAID

“I won’t direct the sequel of ‘Dr.Jones’ or ‘Star Wars New Order’. One movie for each saga is enough for me. I want to try new things next”.
-Steven Spielberg, just in case.

“It’s unbelievable that audiences ignored ‘Saving Samantha Moss’. That was a brilliant movie. Now, everybody will go and watch ‘T.Y.M. 2’ or any other silly movie like that…”
-Jake Gyllenhaal, hurt.

“I don’t care I didn’t win the GMA. I enjoyed the whole thing”.
-Scarlett Johansson, being honest?

“I loved playing the villain both in ‘Dr.Jones’ and ‘Star Wars’. I’m heroic enough when playing James Bond”
-Daniel Craig, not so villain.

“The only thing I demanded to play the mean Peter Pan in ‘Cursed Neverland’ was that, under any circumstances, I would not wear green tights”
-Kiefer Sutherland, demanding.

“I know I said I would never be Storm on screen again. But then they showed me the check for being Storm a few days in ‘Westworld’ and…”
-Halle Berry, getting rich.

AWAITING RELEASE

1-T.Y.M.: THE SECOND CHANCE

The Cast: Brendan Fraser, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Dennis Hopper, Kathy Bates

The Director: Barry Sonnenfeld

The Plot: ‘T.Y.M.’ is a secret and special US Government’s Agency specialized in chasing and hunting all kind of evil ghosts and spirits that live among us. Haunted houses, possessions, living deads and every kind of strange phenomenon are discreetly investigated by agents. But things may get out of control as The Being, supposed to be the leader of all evil spirits, seem to be decided to terrorized the population of New York City. Fraser and Love Hewitt are the agents ordered to be in charge of the case by their boss (D.Hopper). In their seek and battle against The Being, they’ll get the help of an eccentric medium played by Kathy Bates.

The Comment: Sequel of one of the first CMP’s movies. Although main stars of the original movie are not returning in this one, the formula could work again. Comedy, action and a bit of sci-fi should be a good mix for a blockbuster.

2-CURSED NEVERLAND

The Cast: Harrison Ford, Reese Witherspoon, Kiefer Sutherland, Frances McDormand

The Director and Producer: M. Night Shymalan

The Plot: In an orphanage for boys and girls the kids talk about a boogyman, a ghost that comes to take children away in the nigh. After several disappearances a social worker named Kate (R. Witherspoon), goes to the police although the orphanage director (F.McDormand) denies that there is something going wrong. Captain Hook (H.Ford) takes the case to find the missing children. Kate and Hook soon discover a man whom the kids have come to call Peter Pan (K.Sutherland), some kind of demon that comes from Neverland. He looks almost like in the stories but he is very pale almost white with red glowing eyes. Kate and Hook soon make their way to Neverland and are thrust into a nightmarish world. They find the lost children and soon it becomes a matter of survival as Hook and Kate try to find a way to save the children and close the gateway to Neverland for good.

The Comment: After the flop of ‘Dark Omens’, a new horror proposal from CMP. This time, they have looked for a prestiged director and cast. Matt Kubrick signs this dark version of the Peter Pan’s myth.

MOVIES IN DEVELOPMENT

THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH: Gary Sinise (‘Bullitt’) and Rachel Weisz (‘Space Quest’) will return to CMP playing lead roles in this Tom Hanks’ period drama about a circus dealing with mobsters in the 1920’s. Adrian Brody had to reject the offer to be in the movie as he is finishing the shootage of ‘Star Wars: New Order’. Tom Hanks, director of the movie, has confirmed that this Marcus Trax’s story has nothing to do with the classic Cecil B. De Mille’s movie with the same title.

UNCOMMON VALOUR: BROAD PENDANT: A tough rival for Julian McMahon to be cast. Leonardo DiCaprio (after losing the chance of starring ‘The Last Lawman’ as he wished) has shown his interest in playing the same role and director and producer Ridley Scott has now to decide who will finally be the chosen one.

SMOKE SIGNALS: Jennifer Connelly meets Johnny Depp in this drama. This will be the second CMP’s movie for Connelly after starring the first GMA Best Picture winner, ‘The Crusades’.

STAR WARS: NEW ORDER: Patrick Stewart (‘Corsairs’, ‘Hitman’) plays a Jedi Master in Spielberg’s movie. Filming has finished and as soon as all the digital effects are completed, the Studio expects to release the mega-production.

THE TOYMAKER: Here it is the new James Bradley’s story: the adventures of a modest toy maker in the years of the French Revolution. And two big, very big names, ahead of this expensive production: Francis Ford Coppola has accepted to direct it. And GMA Best Director Winner, Martin Scorsese (‘The Heirs’, ‘The Heirs – Part 2’) will take care of the production. It is said that an outstanding cast may be expected.

RED LIGHT: Demi Moore has confirmed that the movie will include some nude scenes, although not absolutely explicit.

POOR LITTLE RICH BOY: The new comedy by director Jay Roach and star Jason Biggs will have another CMP’s regular playing the main female character : Jessica Alba, seen in CMP’s blockbusters such as ‘T.Y.M.’ and ‘Deep Silence’.

HOME: Director Matt Kubrick and Producer Oliver Stone attended to a press conference recently to present their movie. They explained that, before starting to shoot, all the members of the cast will expend three weeks in a military training camp to get used to the tough life in the army. No names were confirmed yet to star this epic production. Maybe, not too many stars are willing to go camping…

THE LITTLE SISTER: Jack Hammer has adapted the Raymond Chandler’s novel for a new film noir. Detective Philip Marlowe (played before by stars like Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum or Elliot Gould) will have the face of George Clooney in his return to screens. Hammer is also considering to debut as director with this project.

THE LAST LAWMAN: Halle Berry (‘Dark’, ‘Westworld’) will finally co-star with Will Smith this new Robert Rodriguez’s movie. Other female stars considered for this role were Eva Mendes ('Deep Silence'), Katie Holmes ('Star Wars: New Order') and Salma Hayek ('Sam & Twitch').

RUMOURS AND GOSSIPS

CMP has taken the decision of producing the sequel of Most Wanted Sequel GMA Winner ‘Hot Iron’. The original movie was a financial disaster, so it is said that all the marketing around this sequel won’t even mention ‘Hot Iron’ in order to keep some distance from it.

An unconfirmed rumour: Director Matt Kubrick does not want to get into any kind of political debate with his new movie, sited in the Iraq war. In fact, the first draft of the screenplay sited the story in Vietnam’s war. So the rumour is that, in order to avoid controversy, Kubrick has even asked producer Oliver Stone not to make any kind of political statement in any press conference or interview related to the movie.

After their bad relationship with star and producer Demi Moore, Jane Fonda has communicated to CMP that she won’t take part in any kind of promotional tour of her new movie, ‘Red Light’.

INSIDE CMP

It’s all happiness in the Studio’s offices. Season 3 is going much better than Season 2. The success of ‘Captain America vs Superman’ and ‘Westworld’ together with the wonderful results of ‘Dr. Jones and the Sword of Faith’ and ‘LOL’ have brought tranquillity to everyone in CMP as it seems like this Season can be financially outstanding for the Studio.

In fact, there is money enough in the Studio to assume safely certain risks. The production of sequels from failed movies like ‘Hot Iron’ or ‘Space Quest’ can now be done without fear together with testing new experiences with low budget movies, like ‘Smoke Signals’.
