Stark’s Comment: Here it is at last, the most difficult CMP’s pitch ever. More than one year ago, John Daws submitted this pitch to the Studio. It was greenlighted and then cancelled. Other screenwriters presented there own visions of He-Man’s big screen adaptation. And, finally, CMP returned to the first original story written by Daws. Now, it has turned into a big budget production and (I hope) into another megahit for the Studio.
CHRYSALIS: PENNIES FROM HELL
Sci-Fi / Action
The Cast: Tim Roth, Gong Li, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, Don Cheadle, Bruce Willis, Viggo Mortensen, Matt Dillon. Cameo by Matt Kubrick.
The Director: David Fincher
The Screenwriter: Joey Stark
The Plot: The story begins in a courtroom. A man is accused of murder. His name is Hiram Worchester (T.Roth).
Worchester is the owner of Aces High, the fancy restaurant located in the Empire State Building. He is an Ace and, although he had a brief career as superhero, he quickly gave it up and returned to his first love, the gourmet restaurant business. Among his powers, Worchester can change from being extremely fat to being extremely thin. He is elegant, sophisticated, snob and enigmatic.
During the trial, a man takes the stand to tell what he knows about the murder. He is no other than Jack ‘Popinjay’ Ackroyd (B.Willis), the famous private investigator. Popinjay will be the narrator for the courtroom’s audience (and for us) of what has happened.
Who did Worchester killed? And why?
Flashback…
We see Worchester some time before. He is enjoying life as the owner of his popular restaurant ‘Aces High’. He has reached a business deal with Fortunato (M.Dillon): whenever any of the rich clients of Aces High (one of them: cameo by Matt Kubrick) asks for female company, Worchester hires one of Fortunato’s geishas.
Fortunato has recently returned to NYC after a time living as a monk in Tibet (see CMP’s ‘Wild Cards: Ace In the Hole’). Since his return, Fortunato makes his living as a pimp. He manages a group of geishas, beautiful Asian women he took with him from Tibet.
Worchester meets Water Lily (Gong Li), one of Fortunato’s geishas and instantly falls wildly in love with her. Life seems to be perfect for Worchester, as he discovers love for the first time while his restaurant keeps getting more and more popular in the richest Ace’s society.
But all that happiness will suddenly change…
Back to the Courtroom…
Popinjay keeps telling this story from the stand and we see Worchester, sitting in the dock, as his eyes begin to be covered by tears.
Flashback…
At that time, NYC was terrorized by The Astronomer (J.Irons). After he lost the battle where his army of Swarms was defeated (see CMP’s ‘Wild Cards: Aces High’), The Astronomer has lived only for revenge. He changed his appearance – now looking younger – and has become a cruel serial killer. He kills young woman practicing a horrific form of death magic, gaining immense energy through the ritualistic slaying of his victims. He even gets younger every time he kills another one of his victims.
Randomly, the new victim The Astronomer chooses is Water Lily. He assaults her at her apartment. Worchester arrives there when she is been attacked. Surprised by Worchester, The Astronomer flung her off a balcony and runs away. Worchester cannot do anything to save her.
Driven mad by the death of her love, Worchester’s life falls into a self-destruction phase.
Back to the courtroom…
Popinjay explains directly to the jury that some times a man can completely lose his mind for a while due to a shock and the doubt is if he can be responsible for what he does during that time. Answering a Worchester’s defender question, Popinjay says that he is not sure if Worchester was conscious of what he was doing after Water Lily’s death…
Flashback…
When Water Lily died, Worchester abandoned himself. His absences from the restaurant became greater and greater, alienating his chefs and maitre. He becomes a heavy drinker at Chrysalis’ bar, the Crystal Palace, one of Jokertown’s most well known nightclubs where she regularly sells both drinks and confidential information.
One night, Worchester has fallen, completely drunk, on a dark backstreet close to the Crystal Palace. Ti Malice (D.Cheadle) is thrown away from The Crystal Palace by Chrysalis’ club security guys. He finds Worchester unconscious at the backstreet. And decides to use him as his ‘mount’.
Back to the courtroom…
‘His ‘mount’? Can you explain us what that means?’, asks Worchester’s lawyer. ‘Yes,’ says Popinjay, ‘his mount. Ti Malice is a Joker who acts as a parasite on other people. The only way he can gets nutrition is by changing his morphology. He can transform into a tiny insect and penetrate in somebody else’s body until he is feed enough to leave it and return to his normal size. The point is that, while he uses somebody as his ‘mount’, he can control his mind. That night, Ti Malice decided to use Worchester as his ‘mount’.’
Flashback…
Ti Malice had always hated Chrysalis. She had ruined some drug traffic operations he was doing by giving the Police certain information about him. So Ti Malice had always wanted revenge. That’s why Chrysalis’ bodyguards never let him get into The Crystal Palace.
But, that night, Ti Malice decided that the hour for his final revenge had come. Inside Worchester’s body, he made him wake up and wait in the shadows until The Crystal Palace closed. When Chrysalis and his two security guys stepped out to the club, Worchester faced them and attacked them in the darkness of the backstreet. It was a tough fight…
But finally, Chrysalis and the two big guys were killed by Worchester, whose skill to fight was strengthen by Ti Malice inside of him. After killing then, Worchester threw an ace of spades card onto Chrysalis’ remains, the symbol of Chrysalis’ lover, Yeoman, to make Police think he was the murderer.
After that, Ti Malice abandoned Worchester’s body. When Worchester woke up in the backstreet, he only saw the bodies of Chrysalis and the other two guys, but he could not remember anything. Scared, he just run away.
Back to the courtroom…
‘What happened next?’, asks the judge to Popinjay in the deadly silent courtroom. Popinjay answers: ‘Then, Yeoman asked me to help him in finding his lover’s murderer…’
Flashback…
Yeoman (V.Mortensen) and Popinjay investigates what happened that night. Some people saw Worchester in the backstreet, fallen unconscious, right before the crime took place. So they looked for him after checking that his fingertips were on the card left over Chrysalis’ death body. When they finally found him, he confessed he had seen the bodies of the victims but he said he did not remember anything. Some other witnesses had told them about Ti Malice being in the club that night. So Popinjay, who knew the evil Ti Malice for long, thought that maybe he had got inside Worchester and then killed Chrysalis, as he could not find a reason for Worchester to kill her.
Yeoman didn’t believe him. He just wanted to kill Worchester right there and then. But Popinjay finally convinced Yeoman to take Worchester to prison for a fair trial.
Back to the courtroom…
‘And now what?’ says the judge, ‘The jury will have to decide if Worchester killed the three victims and also if he did it by himself or being used as a ‘mount’ by Ti Malice’
And the jury’s verdict is… guilty.
The judge declares Worchester guilty of murder. But, due to the weak evidences, release him under his own recognizance with the injunction that it is now illegal for him to use any power and to run any business open to the public in NYC.
So ‘Aces High’ has to be closed. And Worchester is rejected by his old friends in the Ace’s high society as he has fallen from grace.
Lonely and depressed, Worchester receives a surprising visit at his home. It’s Yeoman.
Yeoman tells him that he does not completely believe the Popinjay’s theory about Worchester being ‘possessed’ by Ti Malice. So he offers Worchester a deal: Worchester will help him to find Ti Malice. When they do and force Ti Malice to talk, if Ti Malice didn’t do it, Yeoman will kill Worchester. If Ti Malice confesses he did it, Yeoman will kill him and help Worchester to recover his lost social prestige… and his restaurant. Worchester tells Yeoman he’ll agree if he also helps him to find and destroy The Astronomer.
Yeoman and Worchester close the deal.

Stark’s Comment: The new spin off from my beloved saga. And the first Wild Cards’ movie written by Joey Stark. As usual, I expect this new Wild Cards’ episode won’t be a major box office hit, but it will bring enough loyal followers of the saga back to the theatres to make a decent financial breakdown. Anyway, as you can all imagine, I simply love this movie no matter box office’s result.
ONE MAN’S HELL
Horror / Supernatural
The Cast: Nicholas Cage, Clive Owen, Lukas Black, Cate Blanchett, Ben Kingsley, Stanley Tucci.
The Director: Tim Burton
The Producer: Nicholas Cage
The Screenwriter: David Makalaster
The Plot: On the flipside, Dr. Kurt Haber (Owen), Jeremy's psychiatrist/caretaker at the St. Dymphna Mental Institution can only watch as his patient's condition deteriorate. Jeremy (N.Cage) is in fact an inmate, and is being studied by Haber. Flashbacks throughout the movie show Jeremy leading a happy life with Anne-Marie (C.Blanchett) and Brett (L.Black) but becoming increasingly paranoid about other people, seeing them partially transform into demons and his surroundings become hellish. He ends up murdering a postman he thinks is about to kill Anne-Marie, and is sentenced to life at St. Dymphna.
Jeremy manages to escape by stabbing a guard during outdoors exercise and flees through the surrounding wilderness towards his home. Because he is a convicted murderer, the entirety of the local police force, lead by senior officer Jeff Coburn (B.Kingsley) and helped by Haber. As Jeremy makes his bloody way home, he encounters Brett on the freeway. Brett attempts to talk some sense into him, but when he physically attempts to stop Jeremy, he is seen as a demon by Jeremy and, after a struggle, he throws Brett in front of a truck. When Jeremy finally reaches his home, he finds Anne-Marie and her new husband Mike (S.Tucci) prepared. After wounding Jeremy, thinking him dead, Mike is shot dead by Jeremy. When Jeremy approaches Anne-Marie and asks her to come with him away from the hell he thinks it is, she dares nothing but scream in terror. As he approaches her, he sees himself in a nearby mirror as a demon and, realizing what he's done, shoots himself in the driveway. As the police are cleaning up the scene. Anne-Marie watches, crying, as the bodies of Mike & Jeremy are loaded onto a waiting ambulance.
As a final shot, a demonic hand closes the ambulance door.

Stark’s Comment: A dark, even gothic, story that looks very much appealing to me, although I feel unsure about the box office’s result. I am very happy with Burton’s return to CMP after his Captain America’s movies. And Cage has proved to be an intelligent producer with ‘Faction 12’. So here is an interesting pitch, at least for me.
MOVIES IN DEVELOPMENT
THE RUNNING MAN: Jaden Smith and Sean Patrick Thomas will help Mark Whalberg to survive as the contestant of the wild tv show ‘The Running Man’ where he becomes the piece for a group of hunters. Chris Cooper (‘Three Wooden Crosses’) is the producer of the show, coming up on your tv in 2032.1066: Clive Owen has jumped from the set of ‘One Man’s Hell’ to this shootage, to play an ambitious and powerful English who dreams of becoming King. A curiosity: following recent precedents from other CMP’s writers, John Daws is going to debut as an actor here, making a cameo as a wild soldier.

HITMAN: SHADOW OF A LEGEND: And Tony Scott jumps from ‘He-Man’ to this one. Another return to the saga: Kate Beckinsale will be now the wife of Farrell. And a new face in the franchise: Mischa Barton (‘Blood Beach’), a woman Hitman is ordered to protect.
BULLET WITCH: Makalaster’s frist pitch for Season 8 is based on an Xbox360 game. A war between humans and demons has started and we all hope Hillary Swank will be capable of save us. McG (‘Yeoman’) is the man to direct it. And he will have to hurry up as it is rumoured that he will be directing soon the new Wild Cards’ episode too.
NIGHT CAB: Harry Stark has recently presented this new Matt Kubrick’s pitch as a wild version of ‘Collateral’. In fact, it is a comedy about a hitman and a cab driver. GMA Winner George Clooney, not seen in CMP since ‘The Little Sister’, returns to the Studio to play the hitman. And Harry Stark has offered him to also direct the movie, but he hasen’t taken a decision about it yet.UP AND COMING: Michelle Williams joins the shootage of this political drama in her first work for CMP. Rumours say that CMP is considering changing the title of the movie. By the way, the Studio has not made public yet who is directing this movie.
THE ICE PRINCESS: This animation movie directed by Andrew Adamson tells the story of a
young girl whose destiny is to save her kingdom from darkness. And the girl – and future princess – voice will be lend by Cameron Diaz. Cameron already put her voice in another CMP’s animated feature: ‘Robotech 2’. But he had not returned to the Studio since the flop of ‘Minos’.A MAN CALLED DAN: Aaron Eckhart’s parents in this movie will be played by Glenn Close (replacing Stark’s first option, who was Merryl Streep) and Robert Duvall, recently seen in ‘Only In America’. And the adopted son of Eckhart will be played by Jimmy Bennett (‘Babes In Toyland’).
JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS: Ellen Page is the victim of a psychotic trunk driver. And that will be no other than Ray Liotta, seen in CMP’s movies like ‘Hot Iron’, ‘The Little Sister’, ’22:01’ and ‘The Caves Of Steel’. They are mostly the two only characters that will be seen during all this claustrophobic Matt Kubrick’s production.Q-BERT: A peculiar pitch. Josh Collins has written a story based on the 80’s arcade game ‘Q-Bert’. His intention is to make a hilarious satire of the 80’s underdog films. Will Ferrell will play the lead character of this action comedy and the successful director of ‘Lieutenant USA’ – where he already worked with Ferrell -, David Zucker, will be behind the cameras. Zucker has already confirmed that this project will probably make him not being available to direct the upcoming sequel of ‘Lieutenant USA’.
MAKING OF… ‘CHRYSALIS: PENNIES FROM HELL’
By Joey Stark
I had never heard of the Wild Cards’ books before Matt Kubrick released the first movie of the saga. It was something so interesting: a world where humans had turned into Aces and Jokers due to a virus that mutated their ADN… They were not exactly superheroes, but just freaks trying to survive in a new dark world. I have always imagined New York City in Wild Cards like the city from ‘Blade Runner’ and also the characters as a kind of ‘replicants’. And, as screenwriter, I always thought that the Wild Cards’ world offers a lot of freedom to imagine all kind of characters and stories.
So, everything was so appealing that I decided to write my own Wild Cards’ movie. My favorite
characters have always been the ones from the first movie so my first decision was to write a spin off based on Chrysalis. The first ideas I had just didn’t work. Chrysalis had shown up in the two first movies and also in ‘Yeoman’. There was not much more to tell about her. So, when I felt blocked, inspiration came to me: why not making a movie about the death of Chrysalis? That seemed to me like an interesting starting point to go on from. It was going to be so shocking watching Chrysalis dying in her own spin off! In fact, the movie would start in a courtroom, with the lead character accused of murder. But audiences would not know who the victim was until half of the movie. And then would come the surprise: Chrysalis is the murdered one. I liked that idea.
As I said I knew nothing about the books, so I started to investigate about Wild Cards in different websites. Wow, it’s amazing how many characters are there. I did not need to create new ones, just take my favorites from the already existing ones. One thing was clear: I wanted to mix new characters with some old ones I specially like.
The selection of characters was made even before the storyline was completely conceived. I wanted Popinjay (Bruce Willis) in the movie for sure. And also Fortunato (Matt Dillon), the sex machine left as a monk in Tibet after the second Kubrick’s story. Then came the idea of recovering The Astronomer (originally played by Ian McKellen in the second movie, I have replaced him here by Jeremy Irons, as McKellen was busy making ‘He-Man’). Then I decided to bring back Yeoman, as he was Chrysalis’ lover in his own spin off. And then I found some new characters I liked very much like Water Lily or Ti Malice…But I had taken another decision: the lead character shouldn’t be a heroic one, but a poor guy fallen in disgrace. Hiram Worchester, owner of ‘Aces High’, looked great for my purposes. I just changed him a bit from the books, where Worchester is a fat bold guy, turning him into a weaker and more vulnerable guy. Tim Roth was perfect for the role.
The storyline of this movie is very much based on the original books. I have mixed a few plots from the books and introduced some changes. I.e.: Ti Malice is not exactly an insect that gets into other people’s bodies in the books, but he is also a parasite. And Water Lily was saved from The Astronomer’s attack by Worchester in the books. But, besides that, the screenplay is pretty loyal to the original books.
I love the work David Fincher has done. I wanted to make a dark movie (again, I admit the influence
of Blade Runner in the production design), darker than any other previous movie from the franchise. I knew David would be perfect for that (the David Fincher that directed another influence I admit: ‘Seven’). Each Wild Cards movie has had a different director, each of them has contributed to the saga with their personal touch, and I think there’s a new Wild Cards’ universe here due to David’s mastery.Well, summing up, this has been a great experience. It has been so much fun. I even loved the cameo Matt Kubrick made as a client in ‘Aces High’, a perfect and deserved tribute to the creator of this movies’ saga.
And yes. I think I’ll keep writing episodes for the franchise. I’ll go on in parallel with Kubrick’s own new episodes. My intention is to go on from where this one ended: Yeoman and Worchester looking for revenge after their lovers have been assassinated. But, at the same time, I’m considering making it a spin off based on Popinjay… I don’t know by now.

PIC OF THE WEEK
Last premiere night of the Season! It has taken so long but it’s finally here: ‘He-Man. The Power Of Greyskull’ is finally a reality. Peter Jackson and Tony Scott have made it possible, upgrading the original material from a childish cartoon to an epic fantasy adventure for all ages. And the release deserved a major event. The movie premiere has taken place in New York City. And here you have Josh Holloway and Keira Knightley at the photo call, ahead of a big picture of the original cartoon character.

FROM VIGGO TO JOSH
A curiosity. As you all know by now, ‘He-Man’ has been a long waited project. Originally, Viggo Mortensen was approached to play He-Man. He even started to work hard on the gym to muscle appropriately to play the character. But, after the project was cancelled and forgot in limbo for too long, he just decided he was not interested in the movie anymore. Anyway, CMP’s Marketing Department had already started working on the original project’s poster. So here it is how it looked when Viggo was supposed to be the leading star. Just look and compare. Who looks better as He-Man: Viggo or Josh?

SPECIAL ARTICLE – STEPHANIE STEVEN
Almost two years and still going strong, CMP has proven that it is a force to reckon with. I've noticed a lot of things going on while this little studio has grown. One of the biggest changes is that it is very wealthy. Owner Harry Stark has a secret ingredient he adds to all of the pitches he gets and most of the time, it works. Who would have thought that in the earlier season, a film mocking the PC game 'Hollywood Mogul' would be one of the biggest best selling films of CMPs history? Even Stark was speechless when he saw the numbers.
More changes include the variety of actors and actresses. You may see one actor in one season and you won't see him again until four or five seasons later. Or one huge star in CMP would never work for the studio again. It's always nice to see fresh faces, equally nice to see the same faces, but not as omnipresent. How many times do you see Patrick Stewart or Kiefer Sutherland in other Hollywood films while in CMP, those are two of the most sought out actors in its history.
I've also noticed that many of the screenwriters take their pitches seriously lately as if they were pitching them to the top Hollywood studios. Not to say that's a bad thing, but it shows to me how much the screenwriters enjoy pitching their films to the studio. And sure there are some joke movies like the Mogulers or Captain Planet, but those show the writers have a sense of humor. It also shows true honest talent yet to be discovered by those Hollywood jerks. And they'd steal an idea from these poor writers before even considering their hard work on their pitches.
Alas, CMP is always changing which is far from being a bad thing. The little company that could and it did. Congratulations CMP on almost two years of hard work.
TALK OF THE TOWN
There are rumours about discrepancies between George Lucas and Stephen Sommers during the shooting of ‘The Legend Of Zelda’. In fact, it is said that George Lucas is not very happy with
Sommers’ work so he has informed Stark that, if a sequel is ever developed, he himself will assume the directional job. Remember that Lucas already had some problems too with Marcus Trax when producing the Star Wars Trilogy when he wanted to direct the third episode of the CMP’s trilogy and Trax denied it. Asked about all this, Sommers has said that he prefers to remain in silence. And now what? McG has surprised everyone getting involved in the David Makalaster’s project ‘Bullet Witch’. Harry Stark and Matt Kubrick expected him to direct next Season the fourth mainstream Wild Cards’ episode. Remember that McG already directed ‘Yeoman’ with the best box office results of the franchise. But when Makalaster offered him to direct ‘Bullet Witch’, the idea liked him so much that he rapidly accepted. His decision has stopped the preproduction of the WC’s new movie, as the Studio is not sure now if McG will have time to direct both pitches.
Ecstasy. That could be the word to describe how CMP’s producer Mort Trammell feels with the
amazing net gains of ‘A Horse With No Name’. Trammell, a professional producer from the CMP’s team, has recently stated: ‘Nobody at the Studio believed much in the project but me. A movie about two guys and a horse with only two medium stars, no girl, no violence and no CGI? Shia LaBeouf on the road again after ‘Super Bowl’? That’s what everyone told me. But now all the guys at the office pat my back and ask how we did it to make it work that well.’And now ‘Masters of the Universe’? Harry Stark still doesn’t know what to do with this screenplay written by Matt Kubrick and also focussed on ‘He-Man’. Internal sources confirms that Stark likes the screenplay very much but he is not sure if audiences would accept another movie based on the same concept. Probably, he will wait to see the final breakdown of this week’s release to take a final decision about this other He-Man’s project.
As CMP gets closer to its 200 movies released, Harry Stark is considering how to celebrate it. According to some rumours, he might decide to produce a video clip to celebrate the event. The video would be a kind of tribute to all the stars and talents that have made CMP possible and it could be seen in Youtube if it is finally produced.
