The Plot:

Planet Zebes, a planet once inhabited by a mysterious ancient civilization known as the Chozo, noble birdlike creatures. They raised a young human known as Samus (R. Simpkins) after the destruction of her home colony and original parents at the hands of Ridley (Voice of K. Sutherland), a skeletal pterodactyl creature with a high amount of intellect. He leads his Space Pirate crew under the command of Mother Brain (Voice of U. Thurman) (yes, she or it is a giant brain in a pod) who seeks Metroids, predatory jellyfish-like creatures who are almost impossible to destroy and can suck the energy out of all living things and reproduce. Mother Brain wants the Metroids to conquer the galaxy and sends her Space Pirates to SR-388-the home planet of Metroids-to capture these creatures.

Mother Brain was actually created by the Chozo, but when the Space Pirates invaded Zebes, Mother Brain turned on her creators and sided with the Pirates. Long before the invasion, Samus (C. Theron) was trained by the Chozo to be a warrior, she would go on to join the Galactic Federation's Police Force (led by L. Fishburne), and because of her great skills, she would soon become a bounty hunter for the Galactic Federation.

She must return to Zebes to recapture the Metroids from the Space Pirate grasps. She must face Mother Brain, Ridley and the reptilian super-giant Kraid (Voice of V. Diesel) and those dastardly minions of insect/crustacean creatures known as the Space Pirates while discovering the truths of her past and fighting for the honor of her birth parents, home colony and the Chozo. At the end of the film, she supposedly defeats her enemies and not a moment too soon when Zebes self destructs.

Stark’s Comment: Here we go with another one of those top budget productions looking for a big box office. As usual, plenty of CGI, action sequences and a spectacular production design… Let’s hope our wishes for it come true…

Behind The Scenes:

-This is the first leading role played by Charlize Theron in CMP after her controversial work in Season 7’s ‘Damnation Road’.
-Laurence Fishburne won the Best Actor GMA with another Collins’ story: playing Martin Luther King Jr. in ‘Dream Of A King’. Since then, he had only made a voice only work for CMP in ‘Aquaman’.
-Kiefer Sutherland, who used to be a regular during the first CMP’s Seasons, had not work for the Studio since Season 8’s ‘Hitman: Shadow Of A Legend’.
-Ryan Simpkins has worked before with Josh Collins in ‘Married To The Supervillain’ and ‘The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon’.
-Vin Diesel and Uma Thurman have met before in CMP in the cast of ‘Dragonlance’.

TURN OF A FRIENDLY CARD

The Plot:

A woman (Beyonce Knowles) in a Las Vegas bar is annoyed by a flirtatious drunk (Russell Crowe). Her date William H. Macy wants to do something about it. Danes begs him not to, but when Crowe turns mean, Macy challenges him to step outside. Much to Danes astonishment, Macy wins the fight and even gets Crowe to apologize.

Next morning, it turns out that Crowe has been hired to make Macy look tough in his lady's eyes. Crowe is a former soldier of fortune, lethal with his hands and an expert with weapons, in particular sharp objects. He now acts as a bodyguard for hire but is listed in the Yellow Pages as a chaperon. His goal is to make enough money to leave Vegas and move to Venice, Italy for good.

Soon he is approached by another meek young man. Michael Cera is wealthy and claims to want someone by his side while he gambles, but that's a not true. He really wants Crowe to teach him how to be tough.

Crowe is distracted, meantime, by the savage beating of his friend (Ashley Judd). A paid escort, she went to the hotel suite of a Vegas high roller (Billy Bob Thornton) who has criminal connections. There she was sadistically abused by Thornton, backed by a pair of gigantic thugs (Tyrese Gibson, John Cena)

Judd can't get revenge without Crowe’s help. He reluctantly agrees and goes to Thornton’s hotel, disguised as a pimp. When he asks Thornton to make financial restitution for Judd's injuries, he is threatened with a beating of his own. He proceeds to dispense his own kind of justice, using sharp objects like a medallion and the side of a credit card to defeat Thornton and his goons. Judd arrives and threatens to slice off Thornton’s manhood, but relents. She takes his money instead and gives it to her Crowe.

Thornton goes to a local crime boss (Tom Wilkinson) to claim that the guy pulled a gun on him for no reason and to ask for retaliation. Wilkinson, however, knows how Crowe operates and is persuaded that Thornton is lying.

Taking a liking to his new client, Crowe agrees to give Cera a few pointers on how to defend himself. With the money Judd gave him, meanwhile, Crowe begins to play blackjack in a casino where his friend (Joan Cusack) is a dealer. Cera comes to realize what Cusack already knows, that the reason Crowe has had so much difficulty leaving Vegas is because he is a compulsive gambler.

After he wins enough money to go to Venice as planned, Crowe talks himself into believing that it wouldn't be enough to last him for the rest of his life and he needs more. He returns to the casino and proceeds to lose it all. Thornton and his men are waiting to ambush him. Crowe manages to fight them off with a brave intervention by Cera, who steps in the path of a bullet. As his new friend recovers in the hospital, Crowe is seen on a gondola in Venice, beginning a new life.


Stark’s Comment: I like this movie. It looks dark and different. I am not a 100% sure of how it is going to work at box office but it is the kind of movies I personally like.

Behind The Scenes:

-Paul W.S. Anderson has never directed a movie for CMP before.
-Ashley Judd replaced Angelina Jolie. Although Jolie initially accepted the job, then she reconsidered and decided that she wasn’t interested in playing that character.
-Al Pacino could not play the character finally played by Billy Bob Thornton cause he was already committed to play this week’s other release ‘What You Deserve’.
-Claire Danes refused the offer to play the character finally played by Beyoncé. Danes explained that she was not interested in playing a character only seen in the first scene of the movie.
-CMP has waited for Russell Crowe to finish the filming of this movie to green light the new installment of ‘The Dark Tower’.

WHAT YOU DESERVE

The Plot:

Robert Bianchi (A.Pacino) is the consigliere or adviser to the head of Philadelphia crime family. Robert has made more than enough money in his lifetime, and being the womanizing man that he is, casually spends this money on various young women. This of course is much to the dislike of his wife Courtney (C-A.Moss). The FBI has Robert in their scope. FBI Commander Simmons (J.Malkovich) enlists his own small group of agents to engage themselves within Bianchi's life in order to find his weak spots, and get something on the mafia. Simmons goes through a long list of up and coming agents, having them go through the most strenuous interrogations. Once its over, the group of agents never meet. They are not a team but individual forces of the FBI's best.

One of those agents is Pete Carter (J.Jackson). Considering this case as his "big shot", he's pretty upset that he was designated to be the Bianchi's trash man. However, one early morning, Pete sees Robert and Courtney arguing in the kitchen, with a vase flying out the without Courtney storms out of the house towards the driveway, towards Pete. With tears in her eyes and dressed in a robe, she asks what the hell is he looking at. Pete replies "Someone who deserves better." Courtney smirks and storms back inside leaving Pete and his garbage truck.

Later that day, Robert goes out to a local deli where he finds a young red headed woman sitting outside. Robert takes it upon himself to sit down and engage her. At first she's unamused but she eventually spills her name, Monica (P.Cruz), to his charm. It’s not long after they talk that Robert has her in his usual hotel room bed. Meanwhile, Pete takes it upon himself to visit the Bianchi household while Robert's away. He walks up to the door, just as Courtney's walking out. She recognizes him instantly but is at a lost of words. Pete tells her that he can get that window fixed for cheap, and have it done by the end of the week. She questions to herself whether she can trust him, or herself since she's feeling attracted to him. Courtney asks for a card, but Pete writes his number on her hand. As she walks off, she drops a single earring. Pete picks it up and says "I've been there before." She grabs the earring, and leaves.

Robert comes home late that night and complains about the window and her being the root of his stress. The husband and wife argue again, but end up having rough sex as a result. Pete has had very little contact with his team or their commander since the operation began, but he knows his commander wants a quick results, and that'll be the key to rising in the ranks with the Feds. The next morning, it isn't Courtney Pete sees walking down the driveway, but Robert. Robert asks what happened to the old trash man, and Pete said he got a better job. Robert gets closer to his face, inches away and tells Pete to make sure their eyes never meet again.

Later that day, Robert leaves and eventually meets up with Monica. While Pete arrives at the Bianchi home to fix the window. As he's working on the window, Courtney starts checking him out from behind. She walks up behind, and he slowly turns around. The two stand just as close as Robert and Pete did that very morning. "You deserve better." he whispers. And the two kiss, then have sex on the couch. Once done, Pete apologizes but Courtney isn't regretful. She tells him that he should come by more often. He does. And so the Bianchi couple are both cheating on each other. This goes on for weeks, without a hint from either spouse, and absolutely no movement on the case by the feds.

That is, until one night Robert brings Monica home as he believed Courtney to be out with her girls for the weekend. Courtney walks in on the two kissing up against the kitchen counter. Courtney walks to the closet grabbing something and turning around seeing the two in shock. We see the outside of the house and hear Robert say "What are you doing?" Then a gunshot.

Pete wakes up the next morning with Courtney in his living room, blood all over her face and chest. He questions her about it, and she says "His whore killed him. She shot him square in the head." Courtney cries into Pete's chest. He tells her that she needs to change clothes, and call the cops. He comforts her that he'll be nearby as soon as they leave. When Courtney leaves, Pete calls Commander Simmons to inform him that the case is dead. He is told that he already knows. Pete takes his now blood and brain covered shirt off and puts the phone speaker. He asks the Commander how he could possibly know. He tells him that FBI Agent Monica West was the killer, and that she turned herself in last night.

Pete hears something, turns around and sees that its Courtney sobbing behind him. He hangs up the phone and walks toward Courtney. Pete tells her that she wasn't apart of the job, that their relationship was 100% real. She nods her head, and asks if she could shower here. Pete says of course, and as he goes to start the shower, she pulls out the same knife she grabbed from the closet the night before. Before she can stab Pete, Monica comes bursting in shooting her the back. The two agents stare at each other, no words can tell their feelings.


Stark’s Comment: Dawson Edwards has proved to be a specialist in quality dark thrillers. Remember movies like ‘Fallen Kings’ or ‘Ms. Jordon’. So I expect this one to be as successful as those.

Behind The Scenes:

-This is the second CMP’s movie for DJ Caruso. The first one, ‘Conspiracy Of Life’, made an extraordinary box office.
-Joshua Jackson plays The Flash in Edwards’ franchise. As soon as he has finished his work in this movie, Jackson as joined another Edwards’ movie: ‘Packing Up London’.
-Carrie-Anne Moss is also a regular in another Edwards’ franchise: Wonder Woman.
-Al Pacino had not been seen in CMP since he played in Season 8 the villain of ‘The Avengers 2’.
-Malkovich made a voice-only work in Edwards’ ‘F-Zero’. But the last time he was seen on screen in a CMP’s movie was in Season 3’s ‘The Toymaker’.


THE DARK TOWER: SONG OF SUSANNAH: Green light at last for the awaited fifth installment of The Dark Tower saga, without doubt one of the most prestigious and profitable CMP’s franchises. Matt Kubrick returns as screenwriter, Sam Raimi returns only as producer – as he did in the previous movie – and a new director gets in charge of the filming: Goro Miyazaki. Quite a surprise. Miyazaki is a Japanese movie director specialized in anime animation. This one will be his first live action movie ever. Raimi explains this peculiar choice this way: ‘the movie will be more visually innovative than any of the ones we’ve made before and we wanted not just a movie director but an artist to make it’. Of course, the regular crowd of the saga returns: Russell Crowe, Jake Gyllenhaal, William Moseley and Angela Bassett, whose character gets a particular relevance in this new episode.

AMEDIA: Finally, Silver Lining Entertainment, the independent production company created by Chad Taylor, gets green light for its first project. ‘Amedia’ is a highly ambitious drama and the first CMP’s movie ever co-written not by two but by three writers. Chad Taylor, Dawson Edwards and Matt Kubrick have joined forces to build up a complex ensemble movie. The long cast of this interesting story about crossed and conflictive relationships of all kind will be leaded by the recent Best Actor GMA Winner George Clooney. Chad Taylor not only has co-written the story but will also direct it in his debut behind the cameras.

ASSASSIN’S CREED II: Ralph Fiennes, recently seen in ‘New World’, seems to be specializing in villains lately. He is going to be here Rodrigo Borgia, who will become Pope Alexander VI during the Renaissance times. Tilda Swinton, not seen in CMP since she got a GMA’s nod for her work in ‘More Tales Of The Unexpected’ will show up in the movie as a mysterious holographic figure. And it will also have two luxurious cameos: Gabriel Byrne is going to be Machiavelli while Anthony Hopkins will play no other than Leonardo Da Vinci.

BASED ON REAL LIFE: Trent Nielsen is the author of this comedy being directed by Marc Webb and starred by Topher Grace. And two CMP’s debutantes join the cast: Zachary Levi and Jay Baruchel, the star from the recent Disney’s release ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’. Baruchel has joined the cast replacing Nielsen’s first choice: Zach Braff. Braff refused the offer to play a supporting role in the movie and working again with Marc Webb, who directed him in the acclaimed CMP’s comedy ‘The Bus’, wasn’t tempting enough for him to change his mind.

SUPERMAN: LAST SON: Dawson Edwards and James Mangold are building up the cast for this revamp of Superman, now played by British actor Henry Cavill. Some interesting choices have been announced. Zooey Deschanel (‘The Thinking Man’, ‘Faded’, ‘The Bus’) will play no other than Superman’s everlasting love Lois Lane. And Clark Kent’s parents are going to be played by Richard Dreyfuss, not seen in CMP for a long time after his work in the comedies ‘The Tempting Diamond’ and ‘Casual Day’, and French legendary star Catherine Deneuve, who has never worked for CMP before.

VIXEN: John Leguizamo will get in trouble becoming the abusive lover of the violent Michelle Rodriguez in this third installment of the ‘Reform School Girls’ saga being directed by Rob Cohen. Leguizamo has only been seen before in CMP playing the console’s most famous character ever, Mario, in the ‘Game Boy’ movies.

DANIEL: James Cromwell, seen in CMP’s movies like ‘Zann’ or ‘A Hard Place’, and the CMP’s debutante Michael K. Williams, from the tv series ‘The Wire’, join the cast of this Chad Taylor’s story being directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The movie tells the story of Daniel – played by the non-professional actor Ben Green -, an African boy with an amazing talent for piano who is adopted by Edward Norton and Keri Russell.

GAME OF TRUTH: Marc Forster is directing this spies’ movie starred by Daniel Day Lewis and Olivia Wilde and written by James Bradley. Kenneth Branagh, seen past Season in ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Flashman’s Destiny’ – also directed by him -, joins the shootage playing a big boss of the MI6, the British Secret Service.

PACKING UP LONDON: It has become almost a tradition that Danny Boyle directs at least one movie every CMP’s Season. After ‘The Orphan Train’ and ‘Hallelujah’, Boyle will direct now this sentimental drama written by Dawson Edwards. Diane Kruger, seen in ‘The Beatles’ and ‘Nathan Zachary and the Pilfered Prototype’, stars the movie. And Joshua Jackson will play one of her love interests, in his second work of what promises to be a very busy Season for the star of ‘The Flash’.

TOONS: Some familiar names included in the cast of voices of this sexy animated movie being directed by Ralph Bakshi and written by Matt Kubrick. Megan Fox meets with Kubrick again after the failed saga of ‘Kingdom’ to put her voice to a sexy feline. Matt Dillon – who also worked with Kubrick in the Wild Cards saga – puts his voice to Megan’s boyfriend. And Ian McShane – also well known by Kubrick after working with him in ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ and ‘Legends Of The West’ – will be the voice of the villain of the story, a violent mobster.

TURN OF A FRIENDLY CARD

Still hot his big night at the GMA with 'Metropolis', we have talked with Richard Franzwa about his new movie, 'Turn Of A Friendly Card', his triumph at the GMA and other things...

You have had your first big night at the GMA with 'Metropolis'. How do you feel about it?

It was a great feeling to know that the voters appreciate my work. To tell the truth, I was fully expecting The Jazz Age to win for Director and Picture so when Spielberg and Metropolis won you could have knocked me over with a feather. Having said that, I don't see any of my current scripts winning the big prizes anytime soon, so this was nice.

What does it feel better for you: big box office's success or awards and critical acclamation?

I don't write scripts thinking that they are going to win me awards, but it's nice when the critics like my movies. A nice box office also brings a smile to my face. Those make all the hard work worth it.

'Turn of a friendly card' is different from any of your previous movies. What were you looking for when writing this story?

The idea for the script actually came to me in a dream. The dream was just about the opening scene in the movie where William H. Macy pays Russell Crowe to lose a fight. When I woke up, I was intrigued by that and built a movie around it. I wasn't sure until the end where it was going, and I think the happy ending is a little dodgy, but I'm pleased with it overall.

It is so difficult to 'label' you as screenwriter, as you work with all kind of genres. In what genres do you feel more comfortable?

The genre of my movies depends solely on the ideas that pop into my head. I don't sit down at my desk and say 'Today I'm writing a Drama.' I don't really know if I have all that much control of what types of movie I write. I know where some of my ideas come from, books and such, but others just appear out of the blue. I'll get and idea that seems interesting to me and I'll follow it and see where it goes.

What can we expect from you in the near future?

I've submitted the second Dragonlance movie which might be coming out this season. I also have a script that will be produced by Scoundrels Productions starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt with the Coen Brothers taking care of moving the camera. I also have a script in the works that may lead to my directorial debut. It's a gritty thriller with Harvey Keitel and Sean Penn that should make for a great time at the theater.


THE 14th GOLDEN MOON AWARDS EDITION

The traditional rule of the GMA was back at this 14th Edition: the most nominated movie wasn’t the most awarded one at the end. ‘Metropolis’, with 5 nominations, clearly defeated ‘A Jazz Tale’, 7 nominations, by 4 to 2. As deserved as if ‘A Jazz Tale’ would have triumphed, because both are two great movies that had the right to be on top of the winners’ list.

Not too many surprises in the ceremony. All the main movies got at least a piece of the cake. I can’t really complain about any of the winners as, more or less, my predictions were pretty right this time.

The two stars of the night, in my opinion, were Natalie Portman and Steven Spielberg.

Natalie Portman had got three nominations and it would have been too painful if she wouldn’t have won at least one award. Maybe, the Best Supporting Actress award was the least deserved one for her (after all, she played a leading and not a supporting role in ‘Metropolis’) but winning it saved her night and made her look as the most recognized talent of this GMA’s Edition.

Steven Spielberg has definitely turned into the most awarded moviemaker in CMP’s world. And he is also the first talent to succeed in two consecutive GMA’s Edtions. With ‘The Amazing Adventures Of Kavalier & Clay’ and ‘Metropolis’ he has won 4 statues (two for Best Director, two as producer of the Best Picture winner). And he has made it consecutively. An amazing achievement that installs him on top of the CMP’s Olympus.

Joey Stark can also be considered as one of the remarkable winners of the night. It was his second Best Screenplay award. But he had never won it by himself. His first award was shared with James Bradley for their co-written screenplay ‘The Funeral Drum’. After 14 Seasons and almost 50 screenplays written, it was about time for Joey to win.

As a curiosity, most of the winners show up at the winners’ list for their second time. Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal already won together the Best Starring Couple award back in Season 3 for ‘Saving Samantha Moss’. Also, Kate Winslet, George Clooney and Spielberg had won statues before. In fact, Winslet becomes the first actress to have won twice at the Best Actress category. Only Idris Elba, Ryan Gosling and Ben McKenzie won the statue for the first time.

On the side of the defeated, I would like to highlight some names.

Julia Roberts didn’t win again with her fourth nomination. Not many talents have been nominated four times at the GMA without winning any award. It must be beginning to be frustrating for the talented Julia.

Harvey Keitel and Dakota Fanning were, in my opinion, unfairly defeated. Fanning shined in ‘Prison Letters’, playing a teen character that was a prelude to her definitive entry in teenage characters with ‘The Runaways’. And Harvey couldn’t make it against Gyllenhaal, as I thought he should have.

Also, Emile Hirsh could not make history being the first actor two win the Best Actor award twice in a row.

Anyway, all in all, a correct Edition. Back to normality after the very impressive two previous Editions, when ‘American Tabloid’ and ‘Kavalier & Clay’ broke all the GMA’s records. ‘Metropolis’ deservedly enters into the selected group of movies with 4 awards and Richard Franzwa, although unfairly forgotten at the Best Screenplay category, has finally had for the first time a glorious night at the GMA.

Now, let’s get ready for what Season 15 may bring…


JOEY STARK
BEST SCREENPLAY GMA WINNER FOR ‘A JAZZ TALE’

It may have taken him long, but Joey Stark has finally won his first Best Screenplay GMA by himself with ‘A Jazz Tale’. Before, he had won the award in Season 8 for ‘The Funeral Drum’, a story co-written with James Bradley. As usual, we have talked with the winner at this category in this special interview.

You must have mixed feelings about how things went for ‘A Jazz Tale’ at the recent GMA’s edition…

Sure. We got 7 nominations and then we only won 2 awards… I knew from the very beginning that ‘Metropolis’ was going to be a tough contender. But I am so happy with the Best Screenplay award. It’s not that easy to win. I’ve been around since CMP was born so it has taken me years to have a statue only for myself… It feels great. I had a great time in the 13th Edition with ‘Kavalier & Clay’ so I could live with a bit of disappointment this time.

Shall we see you again at the next Edition?

No, I don’t think so. This new Season, I’m going to relax a little. I have gone back to write action movies like ‘Vixen’. And I know I won’t be at the GMA with that! After the last two Editions, my ego and my anxiety about awards is satisfied… *laughs*

You have created a stable and rewarding working team with Emile Hirsh lately as he has starred three of your latest stories. Any plan to work with him in the near future again?

It’s funny because that wasn’t something that I had planned. I only wrote ‘Kavalier & Clay’ with Emile in mind to play one of the main characters. Then I wrote ‘A Jazz Tale’ and I realized later that Emile was a nice choice to play the starring role. But it wasn’t something like ‘I’m going to make a few movies with Emile’. Things just came out that way. Right now, I do not have any story in mind with a character for him but I hope we have the chance to work together again in the future.

There has been a certain debate about the lack of interesting female characters in CMP lately. What do you think about that?

It’s only partially true. If you look at the latest nominees for the Best Supporting Actress and Lead Actress categories, you can see they all were great female characters. There’s people like James Bradley and Josh Collins that have written quite a high number of stories starred by women. And the two most profitable superheroes’ franchises for the Studio right now, Wonder Woman and Silver Sable, are both about superheroines. Of course, there are more chances for actors, but still I think that CMP cares about actresses too.

There have not been new screenwriters joining CMP lately. And some veterans, like David Makalaster, Jack Hammer or Max Arilius seem definitely gone. Also Trent Nielsen is not too active lately. Are you worried about the future of CMP?

Well, the Studio still has something like 10 active screenwriters actually. That’s a number good enough to guarantee CMP’s future. Writers have always come and go. Seasons ago, we had people like Ted Froats, Marcus Trax or Ben Tyler that were pretty active and then left. That has always happened in CMP. It is true that recruiting new writers seems more difficult since we abandoned ‘Hollywood Mogul’ board. But I don’t think there’s a reason to worry… at least by the moment.

Now that you have temporarily left more ‘adult’ stories to return to action and adventure, in what genres do you feel more comfortable?

Like all CMP’s writers, I like to try everything. The good thing about all of us is our versatility. Here you have this week’s releases: Josh Collins has written a console game adaptation! Personally, sometimes I’m in the mood for a serious drama and some others I just want to go wild and write something like ‘Vixen’.

Past Season, you made your debut as movie director with ‘Secret Sins’. Any plan for another directional job?

Not by the moment. ‘Secret Sins’ was a very risky movie. CMP had never made a movie with such sexual intensity. So I felt like I had to get more involved than ever in the project. Sadly, it didn’t work in box office. That was very disappointing. Anyway, I don’t pretend to direct regularly. But maybe I will return behind the cameras if I feel that I must get specially committed with a movie, like it happened with ‘Secret Sins’.

What movies from other CMP’s authors are interesting you lately?

I am curious about the evolution as screenwriters of Dawson Edwards and Chad Taylor. I have the feeling that they are growing up a lot as screenwriters lately. They are two wonderful additions to CMP’s world. Each new movie they make, I can notice how they are getting better and better as screenwriters. Of course, everybody knows I’m a big fan of Matt Kubrick. He keeps surprising me with his daring ideas after all these years. And I feel a lot of respect and admiration for consolidated veteran writers like Collins, Bradley, Franzwa or Daws. Also, I hope Nielsen gets more active cause he touches genres that are not seen too often in CMP. And I was just so impressed with Steve Connors’ ‘Invasion’. I think that was an amazing movie and I’m looking forward to watch a sequel of it.

What new stories are you working in right now?

I have already finished an adventure movie. My brother Harry asked me to write a story for Tom Cruise to return to CMP. So it’s a movie written already having Cruise in mind to star it. It’s a great adventure movie and I think that it is going to be greenlighted soon. I am also considering to write a new Dr. Jones’ adventure cause it has been some time since the latest one. And I am also working really hard on a new Silver Sable’s movie…

‘Silver Sable’ has been your biggest success. Tell us something about the upcoming fourth installment of this franchise…

I never thought that ‘Silver Sable’ would become such a huge success. I am still amazed that ‘Silver Sable and the Wild Pack’ is the top 1 best box office in CMP ever! After ‘Silver Sable and the Genesis Coalition’, Bryan Singer and I were pretty exhausted and decided that we would not make more Silver’s movies. But we have finally changed our mind. The fourth movie of the saga is going to be the most spectacular and ambitious of them all. There will be a lot of surprises. We are going to introduce in it an impressive group of new superheroes and action sequences are going to be more powerful than ever. It will be the last movie of the saga for sure and we want to put up a big, really big, final show for Silver’s farewell. Oh! And I will give you a scoop: Matt Kubrick has got involved in the project!


Charlize Theron returns to CMP in a leading role after a long time. Last time we saw her leading a cast was in the controversial ultraviolent cult movie ‘Damnation Road’. Now, Charlize returns as Samus Aran, the heroine of Zack Snyder’s ‘Metroid’. And she looks absolutely astonishing in the movie, as you can see in our picture of the week.



One of the funniest anecdotes of the past GMA’s Edition took place during the announcement of the nominees. Natalie Portman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were chosen to present the nominations long before anybody at CMP knew who would be the nominees. As the event went on, it was so funny to see Natalie’s face as she was announcing her three nominations. She tried to stay cold and professional, but she could hardly hide her thrill as she realized that she was going to be the star of this Edition. Stars are humans after all.

Emile Hirsh has starred in a row three prestigious movies for CMP: ‘The Impossible Dream’, ‘The Amazing Adventures Of Kavalier and Clay’ and ‘A Jazz Tale’. He has won two GMA and got another two nominations for those works. So he can be considered now one of the most prestigious talents in CMP’s world. Probably, that’s the reason why he has rejected to star ‘Mega Man’, an adaptation of the console game written by Josh Collins. Hirsh must have considered that an action movie like that is not suitable for a multi-nominated and award winner star like him. Stars are humans… but their ego fattens easily.

Before ‘Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia’ was released, Chad Taylor already had planned to have Circe as a character in ‘Justice League 2’. His plan was that Morena Baccarin, the beautiful star from tv series like ‘V’, would play Circe. But after all the praises got by Cotillard for her creation of the character in ‘Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia’ – including her GMA nomination for Best Villain -, Taylor has quickly changed his mind and has announced that Cotillard will play Circe again in his movie. Bad luck for Baccarin, who will have to wait for another chance to make her debut in CMP.

Although the latest movies of the saga didn’t make too good numbers at box office, Matt Kubrick keeps thinking on resurrecting his famous character Darkman. Yes, the character he himself killed in ‘Raise Of The Darkman’. Two peculiar possibilities are being considered by Kubrick: making a prequel that would tell Darkman’s origins or even making a remake of ‘Fear The Darkness’, the first movie of the franchise. If he finally chooses this second option, it would be the very first time that CMP makes a remake of an own movie.

CMP has always gone ahead of Hollywood. CMP’s movies like ‘Alice In Wonderland’, ‘Sherlock Holmes’, ‘The Avengers’ and some others were produced by CMP long before other Hollywood Studios developed their own productions based on the same concept. And that’s going to happen again. For what I know, Hollywood is now developing a movie that will be a remake of the very same French movie that CMP made a remake of with Bradley’s ‘Fools Game’. Also, Hollywood is developing another remake of a French movie with the title of ‘LOL’. Although in this second case the story is different, CMP already released quite a few Seasons ago a movie titled ‘LOL’ written by Joey Stark. And the funniest curiosity of them all: after Antonio Banderas made a cameo in ‘Kavalier & Clay’ playing Spanish painter Salvador Dalí, I just read a few days ago that Banderas could star a biopic of Salvador Dalí in the near future. All coincidences or somebody out there is watching over CMP?

And I end up this week with good news. Midnight Movies, the production company ruled by Matt Kubrick, has not only avoided bankruptcy but it is growing up. Kubrick has announced the creation of Midnight Movies Animation, a new Department in his company that will develop animated features. So, if we take a look at ‘Toons’, the animated production now being developed by Kubrick and expected to get a ‘R’ rating due to its graphic sex scenes, anything can be expected from this new initiative…
